I'm planning to build a media PC but am having nagging from other quarters as to certain features.

I haven't seen anything particularily useful on this point but am after multiple tuner functionality.

How easy is it to have several tuners with one for viewing and the others recording to the hard drive or even recording to the hard drive while other files are being watched?

I've ended up answering my own question with this but....

It seems that Myth can do what I'm after but doesn't require multiple tuners to do it - it can decode the signal into multiple streams.

I believe that's true only if the the two DVB channels you are wanting to watch are on the same multiplex, eg. BBC1 and BBC2. If you wanted to watch say BBC1 and ITV1, you will need another tuner.

That's correct - I've found a site that gives really good details on it. Apparently, if you want to be able to record everything all the time, you would need six tuners but I'm not even going to begin to try and calculate the processing power and drive bandwidth you would need to be able to record that much BidTV and QVC... ooh, the fun you could have rewatching their lavender jewelry ranges...
