They're going to save the planet from climate change by presumably forcing everyone into cloud gaming where companies like Google can use as much energy as they want as long as they buy enough carbon credits. I'm sure this has absolutely nothing to do with the push towards digital services and phasing out physical ownership though.
So how long before the EU follows suit? they already place restrictions on many electrical appliances. No doubt our (i)liberal overlord Boris will follow.
What's the betting that in another 5-10 years smart meter owners will have to jack their high end PC up to the nearest lamp post to avoid having their electricity turned off.
