Multiplexing changed from VC to LLU?

Yesterday my Internet went down for no reason and I spent an hour or so trying to figure out why. I checked the settings for the modem many times over (user/pass, Encapsulation, etc) and couldn't find anything wrong. The settings I have used have been the same for years. DSL Status was up but PVC status was always down. I thought that it had maybe gone down due to maintance so decided to be patient and leave it for the time being.

Just now I tried changing the multiplexing from VC (which it has always been) to LLU and bingo, it worked again. I checked SamKnows and it says there're no LLU operators present on my exchange or any indication there will be. My ISP is Pipex (Tiscali).

I'm just confused as to why this just happened with no warning from my ISP.

The other multiplexing option is LLC, not LLU. Tiscali aren't keen on sharing coverage data, so don't put too much weight on what SamKnows says - it sounds like you've been punted to Tiscali LLU.

Sorry, I meant LLC. I always get these acronyms mixed up.

Well I guess that explains it then. It's annoying they don't tell you these things until they actually do it.
