Hi guys,

I have just got a i5-2500k on an Msi p67A-Gd53 mobo.

I have overclocked it to 4.5ghz on air and it seems stable with absolute top temps at 78degrees during Intelburn High settings x 50 runs.

However the multiplier keeps on changing (observed using realtemp) during intelburn! So it will go from 100x45 to like 100x37, 100x39 etc.

Any ideas?

I have disabled turbo boost, CE1 is disabled too and power settings are on performance mode in windows...

Thanks fellas.

No it isn't an IBT glitch.
It is the MB reducing the CPU multi to protect it's VRM's

Look in the BIOS to see if there are any current limit settings or perhaps a thermal protection setting.

What version of prime95 are you running ?
You really need version 27.4 with AVX support to test Sandys
That will probably cause throttling as well.

Hi-thanks for the reply.

I am running 26.4 on prime, will get the version you suggested.

What are some settings I should look for in the bios? Its MSI bios btw-I am not familiar with them unfortunately which doesnt help.

I have noticed that:

1.)It only reduces the multiplier when core(s) hit 70degrees

2.) It jumps from idle temps of around 42degrees to 68 in about 2 seconds when I start the stress test....

^SORTED :D

Was one of the things I was going to try tonight when I had my usb (computer enthusiast without a usb handy ).

Stable as a rock, running at 4.5ghz at 1.3v the multiplier is glued to 100x45.

Decided to flash using MSI Live update, took a chance and it worked. Hating MSI bios to be honest but that may just be me, found asus's bios much more intuitive.

So there it is for anyone else, bios update to latest versions solves it. Thanks guys, and thanks Nelly!
