Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Is there anything here that stands out as being silly? I'm looking for a 'starter kit' that I can build - am concerned that if I pick parts myself, I'll miss out something obvious... like the flight controller!

It's a shame about the Transmitter on that, be a lot better with a 9x which can be had very, very cheap if you're prepared to wait for Chinese post, there's also no mention of any Rx(Receiver) to go with the Tx or any picture of one which you would have course need. Also the Motors say a DJI fitting, personally I would stay away as this will limit you somewhat (Think of DJI stuff as the Apple of Multi-Rotors, proprietary stuff you pay more for) and just get motors that use universal fittings. It's still all very usable though if you want to just buy it as it is :)

You could have course source all those parts yourself to save even more pennies but then you'd have to be patient. ;) :)

FlySky TH9XB or Turnigy 9X/R/Pro. With the Turnigy models, make sure it comes with a radio module, as they are often for sale with an empty bay

1x #171000414-0/51442 Turnigy 9XR PRO Radio Transmitter Mode 2 (without module) = $99.99
1x #JR-Combo/14349 FrSky DJT 2.4Ghz Combo Pack for JR w/ Telemetry Module & V8FR-II RX = $39.91

That's what I just got. But the non-pro version would probably have been more than enough

Just got stung with a customs charge, first time I've had to pay one from my various Hobbyking orders though so not all bad

On the plus side I assume that means my parcel is in the UK so maybe it'll get here by the end of the week?

Yours and a few million other  Who charged? I've had a DHL charge before the parcel touched down before (if tracking is to be believed)

It was DHL that charged me, I've not actually checked my tracking information as wasn't expecting it to be here yet

Yeah - i got hit last week for £63 from DHL customs charge.

However, it arrived within 2 days after that. Check the tracking number on your hobbyking order.

Ah ok just checked my tracking, DHL site says it left Hong Kong this morning and is estimated to arrive on Thursday

sounds about right - mine was Thursday and arrived monday which is amazing considering most UK couriers are about the same length of time for 300 miles not 10,000 from Hong Kong!
