I agree but there are many many more things in your house that could cause a lot of damage, away from a lipo suddenly going up in flames.
Nice idea but seems like a lot of work/hassle for something that has such a tiny chance of actually happening.

I think 3mm bullets are your best option, will add a few grams, but it will be (a lot) more soldering
A nice idea, great for charging but for storage alone LiPos are pretty safe. Flitetest did one of these, they just used cement blocks with holes in them with the sand bag on top.
I just charge / store mine in the good thick fire retardant LiPo bags. And have fire alarms all around the house
Risk your house? Where are you charging?
I just charge mine outside on a toughened glass table. If it goes up I just leave it and lose a cheap charger and maybe scorch the table.
If your going to that extent to prevent burning your house down then the easy solution is to just not charge inside the house? We aren't saying the ideas bad, it's a pretty nifty design, but it's massively overdoing a rather unnecessary solution. But like I said, could still be a cool project if it teaches you some skills and gets your mind working.

Ta, I will keep them in mind, but for now I will just solder them. Maybe if I get a chance I will replace them someday
Its extra soldering, but once they are soldered, they can easily be swapped around, unplugged if I need them to unplug.
Yeah I went half house, I soldered the ESCs directly to the PDB as that was a lot neater, but still have bullets on the ESC to motor leads as they stay nicely tucked away in the bottom ESC bay. I'm probably putting my SunnySky's in this weekend and need to consider what approach to take. I'm probably going to put 3mm bullets on the motors again to make it easy.
I've upgraded the Afros ESC firmware to BlHeli over the weekend, and the Naze32 to Cleanflight. This combination supports OneShot, a new FC->ESC protocol. Did a garden test and the quad feels a lot more responsive.
Next step after putting the SunnySkys in will be 4s

Hmmmm, yes. Cleanflight and oneshot Works lovely with the KISS esc's although I think they are now a bit old hat with the advent of the new BlHeli firmware!
Just had probably the best 45 minutes of flight with the H-quad for a long while. Tried PID candidate 5 (Harakiri) for the first time and all I can say is "wow!"
Much more yaw authority, level is stable as hell without the over restricted roll problems I had with PIDc2. Handles flips and rolls beautifully. Didn't need to retune the PID's when I raised the rates. It's just given me so much more confidence flying the thing
Back to FPV at the weekend and see how it all goes!

Yeh but I don't strap my phone or ipad to a flying machine and then ram it in to trees and the earth at 40mph. Its a invalid argument.
multi cell Lipos on multirotors are more susceptible to miss balancing and damage than any of your household appliances and that damage can manifest itself when it is in its most volatile state... charging.
Put three batteries through the quad tonight, wind has been the lowest it has for 3 weeks now. Got some video of me thrashing the poor little thing and by thrashing I mean hitting dirt hard, so hard the power reset somehow on one of them. I tried some new tricks, some attempts successful others not so much
I think I have acro mode down now, it's just my flying skill letting me down and not the mode Im flying. Exits from moving loops are sloppy and stick inputs for tricks need to be faster and more fluid but all in im very happy, I think more so just because I actually got to fly the thing.
Im thinking I need to add a little more expo as my control is twitchy when really pushing it but I will try that another day; I need to really dial in the pids now also as im noticing oscillations and instability on some manoeuvres.
I have video but it is 20 minutes long so I'm going to have a bash at editing it, will no doubt be awful as I have never tried video editing before but I will try.
I did try some fpv today, it wasn't great tbh and not for the reasons you think, I got the bird up and started to make a slow circuit but all of a sudden got loads of interference and dirty video and then bam nothing but grey screen, turns out unbeknownst to me the video connection between the tx and the camera had come loose; I panicked and landed blind hearing a thud behind me knowing full well that the area to my rear was a security fenced open field

luckily I had a extension pole in my work van and could fish the thing out but now I need to find some wide open field where it isn't full of dog walkers so I feel a little more comfortable learning fpv.

I'll be the first to admit it but I can't fly acro line of sight at all well, absolutely fine in horizon or angle but as soon as I pop it onto acro, I lose the plot. Conversely though, I really struggle to fly fpv in anything but acro. Being able to input stick positions and it hold there just seems a whole lot more natural for some reason.

Yip LOS acro mode, im very happy with how it is coming along, only flew it a handful of times and the rest on a simulator to get a feel for it.
Im going to start tuning PIDS now I am grasping the feel of the quad, its tricky as I don't like taking the laptop on to the field and going in and out of the house very 30 seconds to tune everything is annoying when all you want to do is fly. Had a quick test on the field and WOW the punch outs are so aggressive, bottom end of the throttle is so lively too.

Are you running a naze32/cleanflight?
I use this android app for tuning in the field. You just need a USB OTG cable and the normal cable then.
I have baseflight on the quad and clean flight on the tri, I actually have the Bluetooth adaptor and have used it on the tri copter. I should really reflash the quad.
