Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

the major complaint is the length of the screws, they just are not long enough. even worse the thread on the standoffs isn't any longer to accommodate new ones.

Yep. I've ordered some 35mm standoffs and will see about some screws.

What standoffs did you get? they alu ?

Tempted to order my Strobeon LEDs today, although trying to beat the price on two for £12, but those are for the official STROBON ones

Think some IP65 LEDs from Maplin @ £1.65 x5cm available here: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/warm-white-12v-ip65-5cm-led-strip-n91na)

and a Turnigy Receiver Controlled Switch (available here: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__46040__Turnigy_Receiver_Controlled_Switch.html).

and then a Y lead so I can hook the strips and the strobons to the same rx channel

Nylon standoffs from eBay

Just be sure to make we an ample length screw I would say 6 to 8mm of thread and ALU or steel.

My turnigy 9xr pro throttle gimble collapsed and then the tx wouldn't power.I stripped it down and couldn't fix itso picked up a terannis from my local Rc shop. What a world of difference, gimbles are so much nicer. The throttle feels much more precise and the centre values do not fluctuate like on the turnigy. Very pleased and can't wait to fly with it.

Which is the better cheap drone with built in camera?

Hubsan X4 H107C (2mp camera version)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hubsan-H107...UTF8&qid=1427117062&sr=1-5&keywords=hubsan+x4

Syma X5C ("HD" Camera version)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Syma-2-4GHz...&ie=UTF8&qid=1427117106&sr=1-7&keywords=drone

The Syma is about twice the size of the Hubsan and will be much easier to fly for a beginner based on my experience with some of their other craft. The Hubsan however is a fantastic little thing and really fast but is also very twitchy and not too forgiving.

I'd buy them both but that's just me.

If I was buying a mini now I would go for the blade nano qx. It offers everything the hubsan does but also has the ability of using rate\acro mode when you progress. Many have said it really does fly like a larger quad does. It is though a bit pricier but I would see it have more longevity as you grow your skills.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'd be flying this outside (I've got my bodged helicopter for indoor flying) so would the bulk of the syma be beneficial?

Yep I edited my post above when I read it

Will probably just use a Möbius mounted with out a gimball and save on weight

Nearly ready to fly.
Gimbal fitted after paying a visit to model shop to get some advice on how they fit them. Just need to sort the power & signal cable out for the gimbal and fit the folding GPS mast, she'll be good to go.

Then i'll use a "real camera" not the dire lumia for some decent pics.

Has anyone had much experience with those gimballs on a F450? with landing skids also? I was worried about weight. Especially if I go down the route of running parallel batteries to get more flight time.

I was thinking just a mobius and either a homemade vibration dampning holder of some sort should be ok. I think the only way I would go fully tilt/pan gimbal is if I built a 550

Still waiting to hear about my FPV goggles, I have no idea where they are, royal mail tracking still showing unknown.

Is there anyone I can phone to get details of where they are? hobbyking dont seem to give you any info unless its over 21 days, could it be stuck in customs? I have not had any phone calls, letters, notifications about custom charges

Ordered it on the 8th

After much reading I bought in on a second hand F450.

It came with a powered gimbal which I need to set up at some point.

Hope to take it out for it's first flight this evening.

Will post some photos if I can :P
