Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Looks like a nice place to fly :)

These turned up yesterday.........

Lovely frames, just waiting for the end of the month now to get the rest of the bits. Should be fun!

Nice :)

Cant wait to see that build progress.

Unfortunatly since I went out with my 250 in the Brecons a few weeks back iv not had time to go out recently :(

Work has taken its toll and I am supposed to be revising for an exam so on hold at the moment.

I am thinking of doing another build over the winter though

Hi guys, is there anything similar to a dji vision 2 around 500/600 ? I've got a at drone 2 but the range is pretty weak.

dji phantom 3 advanced can be found for around £700. Standard is in your price range but I think there are too many compromises with the standard one.

The advanced comes with the same range (1.2 miles), fpv and gps as the pro. All the pro gets u is a camera upgrade from 1080p to 4k and a faster charger.

A lot of users report that since the data rate is set so low on the 4k camera at 60mb that the quality of the film isnt much better than the hd one from the advanced.

have you guys seen this "news piece" by the BBC on quadcopters?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-33989289

It's so (openly) biased and extremely negative in its tone and language (including heading choice) it makes it seem like the idea of drones are bad in the same way that most people would consider a skateboarder to be a "nuisance".

It seems I need to get all my flying done before the Drone Police are formed :(

Well to be honest, I believe there are rules for flying these things, and it is apparent that some people just are either unaware of those rules, or just don't give two bob about them.

Isn't there restrictions on where these things can be flown in public spaces, i.e. not near people? Why is it, that I was in a park the other day, and some guy was harassing someone dog with it, and flying it near the kids play area. I bet it had a camera on as well, the dirty pedro [/dailymainrant]

My main concern would be what would happen if the pilot lost control? They can do serious damage falling from the sky on a crowd of kids. A lot fo the videos on this thread seem to be crashes.

Also I see a lot people on here ignoring the proximity rules for people. I would imagine that a lot of people on ocuk are the good "responsible" drone flyers never mind the chavs around who really dont give a monkeys.

I must admit, I don't know the rules for flying quadcopters. Considering how a) crap I am at flying and b) unreliable my quadcopter is, I fly by my own 'common sense' rules- away from people and expensive things and I don't want to lose it so I don't let it out of my sight. Like all things if everyone had Common Sense Rules and flew well within their skill level when near people and things, I'd like to think we'd get another good few years of reasonably unregulated flying.

I hope that this doesn't put off people like me- who buy a cheap quadcopter to pretty much muck around with that can't even crack 100m. I think 'they' could limit the altitude of toy quads to the 122m cap (by limited reciever range rather than a GPS thing).

well im jumping in at the deep end with a Phantom 3 (not sure whether to pro or advanced yet)

On the basis they are easier to fly, take stunning pics, have FPV, they (try) to return to you if signal is lost and work up to 1.2 miles away (although techincally thats way past max line of sight limit of 500m so perhaps soon these will be banned unless you have a licence)

So, whats a good RTF 250 class quad? I got a transmitter (hacked turnigy), batteries, a 3d printer, a CNC, and stuff already; so I'd like to buy a RTF, a FPV kit and have something quickly put together.
Alternatively a kit would do too... if it's reasonably well made...

It's got to be Pro really

Not so sure uits worth the extra £250 though. That would buy me two extra batteries for the advanced so the faster charger on the pro is irrelevant (plus you are basically only going to be out in the middle of nowhere flying until all your batteries are dead and then go home to recharge them ready for next time)

And with the bitrate been so low on the 4k camera I am really starting to doubt its worth the extra £250.

Plus then you have bigger files to deal with etc.

Anybody on here got the advanced out of interest?

There's a rumour that an upcoming firmware will give the Advanced camera a 2.7k upgrade from the 1080/60

I suspect the advance camera is exactly but is limited to 1080p in firmware anyway.

a bit like identical engines in cars where the only difference between the 115bhp and the 130bhp car is the programming on the cpu which they charge an extra £2k for.

it makes you wonder what would happen if you flash the advanced with the 4k firmware?

And with the firmware updates to the standard one one with POi, waypoints and follow me home, with that one having a 2.7k video already, the only thing you gain with the advanced is the extra gps and range. The camera abilities are actually less on it.

I would miss the range though, so if they upgrade the camera on the advanced to 2.7k i think thats the one Ill go for and spend the extra money on batteries.

My old man's been talking about Quadcopters for quite some time now and his Birthday is coming up. Any recommendations? Camera would be preferable. Probably a max spend of £200 in case it ends up on the shelf and never used.

Can someone recommend me a 2 axis gimbal for a HERO4 on my 450 quad which can be run from the spare channels on my Naze 32
I have a budget of around £50 but ideally less if possible
I have the GoPro mounted fixed currency but it would be nice to take away the signs of my dodgy flying ability from the footage!
Thanks

What are those ?

Currently some relatively cheap but very well cut carbon fibre from Canada :)

They will be 2 tiny but quick FPV multicopters once I've decided on what kit is going on them. If you google RotorX Raiju 155 and Atom 122 you will see what I'm on about.

The frames only cost me about £30 for both with shipping from Cananda - so no import charges.

Just waiting for a UK stockist for the motors and props then the build will begin!

So no one in the UK sells these yet? These will look like Hubsan x4's on sterroids I assume? :D Look awesome!
