Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Hey guys looking for some helpful advice, I've searched lots of forums but everything I've read and tried doesn't work.

I have a Phantom Vision 2+ I hadn't used it for a about 2-3 months due to moving house then I decided to have a go in back garden.
I was logged into the app and it was connected via the wifi, I could see all the data but no video feed, I pressed record and also took a couple of stills (these were on the card when I checked later).
However still no live feed back to my iphone 5S, so I take it inside and download all the latest software/firmware from DJI thinking that would help.
After the updates I tried again, now I still don't have any live display but also all the satellite and battery info is not showing either. I couldn't take stills or video that had worked prior to the update.
I've tried pairing everything several times, used the controller reset and all that jazz and nothing works to get me back to any kind of info from the quad to the phone. I've tried it on an ipad and then also on a Nexus 7 tablet to see if android would make a difference but no.
The wifi link connects for maybe 20s tops then drops out, I turned off my home wifi just to be sure it wasn't affecting it but made no difference.
The quad flies no problem, I checked after the updates.
Like I said I've watched all the youtube videos and forums helps for people with the similar issues, only conclusion I can come up with is something is damage internally?? I'm no longer in warranty either so I'm a bit miffed.
Any suggestions or maybe even somewhere I could have it sent for repair/checking would be welcome, thanks.

X5 and X5R cameras and gimbal announced for the Inspire.
Micro 4/3 sensor and lens mount. Nice.

£1829 including 17mm f/1.7 lens

I'll probably bag the camera without lens for £1399 and add the Olympus 12mm f/2.0.

This makes my S900 redundant so it will be getting sold.

24 flights and had my first crash on the 22nd :(

just lost two rotor blades so not that bad and was pilot error.

Need more practice with camera and settings etc.

Need more batteries!

But still loving it and flying as often as i can.

been on a 5 mile flight over a reservoir which got my heart pounding a bit :)

 Wasnt a tree was it? They have a habit of jumping out on you when you dont expect it.

Least it wasnt that bad a crash and we learn from our mistakes.

Yeah the camera settings is a nightmare for me too. So many options you never know what to set :)

I went out this morning for a sun rise pic and a plane flew past. Managed to get it when it was too far away

no wasnt a tree lol. It was me for some stupid reason using the twin move on the controller to cut engines after landing despite having never tried that way before and flipping my bird over on a gravel path to have it sliding around all over going mad revving its engines up trying to lift off again upside down!

Anyone have a phantom 2 / vision and upgraded to a P3? A worthwhile investment?

Also, any pics of hydrodipped phantoms? I am thinking about a nice digital camo. Was quoted £70 from one dipping place (essex dip). I have a spare shell etc ready to go. Reasonable do you think? Not sure about trying DIY..

Yes, the difference is night and day. I haven't used my vision since I got my P3P.

If you have a look on Phantom Pilots there's a few threads on hydrodipping.

I posted a few posts back about my problems, but had a good response on another forum. I'm probably going to buy a replacement wifi module if after my cable checks are done there is still no live feed.

If I get mine working again, is there anywhere that you can trade-in P2V+ for P3 ? Or is private sale the only option?

Depends on where you live. I know a rc hobby shop near me sells new dji and takes in part ex.

You will always get a better price private though if you can .

Plus most places seem to want full RRP for their DJI from the shop unless you can get them to negotiate. I know when I was looking there were all £1150 for the pro but u could buy from a dji dealer in germany for £900. No import vat or duty either. The £250 saved buys you two more spare batteries.

My mate is getting either the Quanum Nova FPV GPS Waypoint QuadCopter or the UPair Chase FPV drone with 12MP camera\gimble
The UPair has 14" screen on the remote and costs $500..I may look in to that one.

Bit worried about the EU discussing drone laws... Silly people flying near airports / people etc. In US they are already banned in all national parks and even the whole of Washington!
I'm on phantompilots and have seen the few hydrodipped ones on there, just looking for a few more pics.

What do people think about the Emax Nighthawk 250 - Thinking about moving on from my hubsan x4 to the real world of quads!

I've read the BLHeli ESC's are better, and that some kits are shipping with it. There are apparently V2/Pro II kits out or coming out soon as well?

Also, can I build better or similar for less money? firstpersonview do a nice bundle for what seems a reasonable price, which comes with charger, battery all the bits for about 185. I would choose the turnigy 9X for my transmitter from another retailer instead as I want 9 channels.

Thoughts?

Are you planning on assembling yourself or buying one already made up?

Sorry, didn't read your post properly. That will teach me :)

When you're learning, you will break stuff. If you're anything like me, pretty much every time I fly something needs fixing or replacing! If I was going back to the beginning again, I would get something cheap and sturdy as my first steps in larger machines.

Generally, most of the 250 frames are ok but the ZMR has plenty of upgrade and spares options available.

BLHELI Esc's tend to have Silabs chips, which run faster than the ones with the atmel chip and the firmware is now quite advanced. I do suspect though that a lot of the stuff isn't really noticeable unless you are flying at the limit. Have a look at the DYS 20a SN or BL ones.

Just get plenty of props and batteries. the DAL props are quite good and seem to survive impacts quite well.
