Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

I bought a Phantom 4 earlier this week, loving it so far. I've flown many RC electric planes in the past and some small quads. Learning to trust the video feedback has been a bit of a learning curve, as normally in the past, if I can't visually spot the aircraft it would be a cause to panic. :)

Purchased the car charger the other day, the input current is 9amps .. will want to be keeping the engine running whilst charging!

Welcome to the Phantom club :)

I was looking at getting the P4 but for the extra it cost I didn't think it was worth it over the P3P for what I use it for.

Nice to know about the car charger before I bought one, I can't use my 12v socket without the engine running anyway due to citroens economy mode kicking in after 5 minutes. How long does it take to charge on it?

I have the Phantom 3 Standard and use my Nexus 6 phone as a screen but I'm finding it a little too small.

I want to use a decent sized android tablet but I won't really use it for anything else so I need to find one for as cheap as possible - can anyone recommend one?

Thanks for your replies.

I already have a Nexus 7 (1st Gen) which doesn't get used so I really wanted to use that - I found a couple of websites yesterday though which have made me think it could be possible.

This Forum discusses how to get DJI Go working on the 1st Gen Nexus 7

and I also found this YouTube video

I will give this a go next week I think and then try some short range flights over my local park to make sure it's stable - I even found a guide on overclocking the Nexus 7 as well so I may well give that a go for good measure.

I can't really justify spending another few hundred quid on my hobby just yet as it's only been about 6 weeks since I dropped £600 on my setup - I have the money but I also have a very thrifty other half and a wedding to save for!

Just completed my first ever video edit, using the drone footage we shot over Durdle Door.
For best effects, play in full screen in HD and turn the volume up :)
Enjoy!

BRILLIANT STUFF!!!

That was utterly outstanding!!! Awesome video footage. What do you use to edit and produce it?

Great job m8!!! :D

Got my self a cheap ImmersionRC EZUHF setup this week via Facebook Group.

IMRC EZUHF JR Module
IMRC EZUHF Diversity 8ch
TBS Sander antennas
Diamond SRH-771 antenna

Had it on the bench last night, updated to the FW 1.50 and setup the extreme hopping. This is the FW and setting that has gotten people to 21 miles. All working perfectly.

No flying with it tomorrow but I've a VLOS bench test of 6 miles hopefully with it.

Also, Just checking my Hobbyking account, I've an old order for 6x 6s 10,000 when they where $49.99, that's about £39. With delivery its a total of £252.09. So that broken down is £42.15 per battery. Might be time to get that order placed.

Just bought a spare genuine DJI Intelligent Flight Battery for my P3. £100. Ouch! Big difference in price from the 2S Lipo's for my little Syma X8.

Do other drones like the Parrot Bebop have a flightplan feature? I used it last night and it was great. You can set a point of interest like below.

Heard good things about the Litchi app which allows you to set waypoints and plan flight missions. Haven't tried it yet though but I do intend doing so at some point.

Someone bought the jessops deal which was a P3S with free battery for £449. He planned on keeping the battery and selling the P3S brand new for £400 so effectively getting the battery for £49.

what is to stop people buying whatever lipo cells they need ( be it 2/3/4 cell lipo) and soldering the correct connector on for the parrot. Places like hobbyking sell loads of lipo's as i buy from there for my RC planes.

Just curious as the cost of a battery for these seems expensive.

I believe someone did just that with their Phantom. Not sure how successful it was though. In the last firmware update DJI locked out non OEM batteries. If a non OEM battery is used in a Phantom, a message pops up on the phone/tablet screen informing you it's detected it and the Phantom will not fly.

Where was that from? I just picked up another battery but that was £121 from a place not far from me.

Seller on well known auction site was doing a special offer on them with 17% off. Worked out at something like £102 Inc postage. Normally I'd be wary of buying something like this on eBay as it's full of dodgy copies but the seller has guaranteed me that these are genuine DJI units in retail packaging.
