Hi dudes, Another quick query from me  :D

I am looking at getting myself some multivitamins and omega-3 supplement as I feel these are lacking in my diet as I'm trying to lose bodyfat! I was looking on the MP website or would I just be better off getting something from Holland & Barrett or something?

TIA

Kiz

EDIT: Or would I be better off taking some CLA and BCAA's?

Why do you "feel" you need multi vitamins and omega 3? Just eat a wide variety of healthy food and i doubt you will be lacking any nutrients.

Also, have a read at this Food vs Pills :)

If you supplement with nothing else make it Omega-3. I'd make this the number one, most important thing you can take, so many benefits I'd be here all night if I tried to tell you them.

Multi-vits are coming under attack, again, just lately. This is something you need to do some research yourself on and make up your own mind. All I will say is if you decide to take them don't go for Holland & Barrett stuff, in my experience they use the cheapest and poorest forms of all the vits and minerals. You'll need to look about and find a good quality one that has the highest bio-availability forms of nutrients.

The ADAM's men's multi is one of the better one's and at a reasonable price.

One thing I try and do is take a cap PWO when I'm taking lots of fruit, usually in the form of a smoothie. My thinking is that there's things in the fruit that help the body absorb more vitamins, etc. I also take them with large meals that contain lots of vegetables for same reason. Never take vitamins on an empty stomach or with oats as these have anti-nutrients in them.

I am too trying to lose weight. I was in Tesco and Saw EAS body for life omega 3-6-9 on offer was £7 something down to £3 so i thought why not.
oh a side note the pills a Huge

http://www.gymworld.co.uk/prodpage.asp?ProdID=3262 £9.99 though
3-6-9 is a little misleading. They're ok if you have your diet worked out to the last macro and are on very low calories (2000) with very little fat intake. Then the 3-6-9 are usefull.

Any other scenario than this and they're a waste and not really helping. Our diets are very rich in Omega 6 & 9 and the balance is way out of line with Omega 3. The ideal ratio is somewhere around 3:1 - 1:1 for the Omega's but a typical western diet can be upto 20:1 this is unhealthy.

Taking a 3-6-9 supplement does nothing to adress this inbalance as you're eating equal measures of all, you need pure Omega 3.

You also need to look at the strength of EPA/DHA in an Omega 3 oil aswell.

To get a good balance of omega 3 I'd suggest taking organic milled flax seed (I have 2 heaped tablespoons per day) and some kind of fish oil, that way you get a good mix of the different types of fat.

Fish oil is far superior to flaxseed though.

I take both as flax is also a great source of fibre aswell as being very cheap. Best place for flaxseed that I've found is Tesco funnily enough. They sell 500g of organic ground flaxseed for about £4, bloomin' bargain I tell thee :D

BCAA's? These are a specialized supplement for pretty serious bodybuilders and they're expensive. Are you a bodybuilder?

CLA is rubbish, poor quality and over-priced.

No I'm not a bodybuilder! So I won't bother :D

As for the CLA, then I won't bother with this either! Thanks for the advice though, I will look at getting some Omega-3 & 6 capsules and do some more research on the Multi-vits... thanks for your contributions
