Mums fiesta problem

Hi all,

My mums fiesta (X Reg 1.3)has been playing up on and off for a while now. First off one day it wouldn’t start, it was just clicking quickly. We tested the battery and it was pretty much dead. (I think I posted a thread on here about it). Fitted new battery and all was fine again. Today the none starting came back. It wouldn’t start it was just clicking again. She got a push start and it started fine and has been fine ever since.

One thing I remember is the alternators charge was only about 12.5v - 13v which is a little low. Could this be the problem? The alternator just not charging enough? Could it be a starter motor problem?

When it did it today the trip computer reset but the radio was fine (didnt need code again). I always thought that if a battery was low it would be slow turning over but when we try to start it clicks really quickly.

The starter motor would usually make that clicking noise. Try another battery or using a battery booster to rule that out.

Will give that a go. Seems strange on a new battery tho. It has been fine for about 1 month with the new battery.

Just been out to try it again out of interest and its started fine again

Depends where the battery came from tbh, new or not.

Try replacing the voltage regulator on the alternator the range should be 13.5 - 14.5V

I may look into a replacement alternator. Should be easy enough to change.
