mums pc with xp sp3

ok so mum shouts me and says what is htis box thing thats come up!!!
i looked and its update manager saying xp sp3 is ready to install.

well after installing it the pc seems abit more responsive and snappier!!
seems good so far
so went to my laptop and checked updates and nothing yet :(
 
Your Mum may of installed a patch which make XP SP3 Release Candidate 2 visible in Windows Update. She'll only be running RC2 as SP3 hasn't gone to final release yet.

To confirm go to:

Start>Run Then type winver

And post what it says, someone here will be able to confirm it.
 
clever! hahaha takes mum 5 mins to log into msn, install patch she would ask is that knitting !!!!
windows update is on auto update
wil go take a look and take screenshot
 
well ok its jsut rc2!!!
but its done somthing to the pc or mums been playing !!!!!!!!!
cos its feels much nicer
 
I think I read on these very forums that system files would be replaced (such as uxtheme.dll) which would have course stop custom themes without a 3rd party app like Windowblinds. I'm sure it's repatchable though - better check first however.
 
just wait until sp3 final, then wait for a uxtheme patch for sp3

there's no point installing an RC on a live machine, it's just a pain when you've got to remove it again, complete waste of time
