Hi guys, got a small problem regarding a m8's laptop when booting into safe mode it freezes then bluescreens for a fraction of a second when getting to the dreaded mup.sys then reboots. i have encountered this problem before and my typical (and most other ppl i know of) solution was a full format / reinstall so im just asking if anyone else knows a way around this that can avoid wiping the HD.

Running windows XP SP2 if that helps.

*I used to get this when i did any major hardware changes (mobo especially) but as its a lappy its not been tampered with that way*

Ummm thats about it, and merry xmas :D

Arrrrrggggggg ******* mup.sys

I was pulling my hair out trying to find a solution for this on my old PC, ended up i had a faulty stick of ram however google points to various hardware or driver failures.

Happy Xmas :)

Damn laptops. been doing a lot of reading up on this and there seems to be no deffinate solution thats workable in every case. I do have my old copy of Vista i could put on to replace his win XP but im not sure whether (if its a hardware fault) he would get the same thing on that OS so has anyone had a mup.sys issue with Vista or even Win 7 or is it isolated solely to xp :)

:P

About 2 weeks ago my friend had the same problem with a family members PC. I suggested to try 1 stick of RAM at a time and that fixed the issue (a dodgy 256mb module).
