Not sure if this is the best place to put it, but years ago me and my dad used to have Music 2000. It was basic, but great fun to play with all the different samples and come up with different stuff.

The subject came up again, and he's looking for something similar. I've looked around but the only things I can think of are really complex stuff. What he's looking for is a simple bit of software where you can drag and drop a range of different pre-made samples onto a sheet and produce a piece of music.

Some info for those that don't know it - The PC version was more advanced than the PS version:

Does anybody have any tips on some similar software?

Brings back memories of it on the PS1! I imagine you can get something very similar browser based these days.

A quick google suggests something called Fruity Loops?!

I still have the boxed version, it was a really decent music making piece of software. Didn't know it was released on consoles also ! ahhh nostalgia !

I thought of that a while back, but when you see pictures like this it doesn't exactly make it look as easy as Music 2000 did :p

I've still got some of our old tunes burned on a CD somewhere, think they're in WAV format :D We only stopped using it because I lost the patch we paid for to make it work with Windows XP. Could never get it working after that :(

Asked a very simalar question myself a few months back regarding the older ejay titles.........alas didnt really find a solution :(

Aww :(

When I was first writing music I used Magix Music Studio. I seem to remember it being a bit like DanceEJAY etc. i.e. preview samples, drag & drop into tracks.

I've no idea how good / complex it's like these days but it might be worth trying the demo from here: http://www.magix.com/gb/free-download/

It's worth collecting loads of varied samples though - I spent a long time collecting the DVDs from "Computer Music Magazine". Or you can seek out some royalty-free sample websites.

I downloaded the trial for eJay and he said it was exactly what he was looking for. Bought him the Dance and Trance packages as you can import samples from one into the other making for around 20,000 samples to use :D

Thanks again guys!
