Music Composition software

I'm looking for something to play around with a view to buying. I don't want to use any instruments, imagine I had all the notation in my head and need some software to turn it all into ear candy through my headphones. :cool:

I dont quite understand what you mean. How can you make music without using instruments, either hardware or soft synths?

Like a simple piano score, I would input the notation to the software.

OK, the main one I can think of for that is Avid's Sibelius. It's full notation software and comes with loads of instruments to play back what you write. You can get a demo here http://connect.avid.com/Sibelius-Trial.html
