Music constantly skipping.

Hi,

Im currently on a new installation of Vista, X-mystique sound card.
I had to reformat due to a defragmention tool caused a load of corruption on my hard drive.

Anyway, whilst playing music, no matter the app, my music constantly skips.
It seem to happen when the system is doing something, even just scrolling down the forums can make it skip.
This never did this in my old installation.

Any ideas what could cause it?

Yup, both installed.
Installed in this order: mobo > sound > graphics.

Im finding the more my HD churns the more crackling/skipping im getting.
