Apologies if this is the wrong forum - it's bound to be - but I couldn't decide whether it was music, audio visual, hardware or something completely different.

Anyway, I want to put speakers in every room of the house, all connected to my pc. I then want the ability to play music in specific rooms. i.e. kitchen and living room. or upstairs only. Is that possible? how?

My current knowledge of computer music is that I have mp3s and I can play them in iTunes. That's it.

The pc is upstairs in my office. Downstairs I have a home cinema setup as well as a pretty good stereo system, if that makes any difference.

Thanks

James

Should be in AV really ;)

Anyway, this could get expensive very quickly. How would you like to control it all? As you could do it several ways, eg. remote (like a Pronto), pda, touchscreens, etc...

Check the http://avforums.com , they would probably be the people who would be able to help you out properly.

You've a couple of options really - The first is Airtunes, whereby you basically have an Apple wireless access point with a 3.5mm jack socket in each room.

Or, there's a stereo system that's been out a little while now, which I can't for the life of me remember the manufacturer. BAsically you need a main base station (approx £600), and a slave for each room (approx £200)...

THere's probably more options, but I'm hungover :p

biggest problem is, i dont understand this stuff.

it's the same as networking pcs. i have a router (is that what its called?) that lets me have 2 pcs on the net at the same time. but i've never installed it/set ip up as i just dont get it :o

About £60 a pop.

Yep or some other form of this will be fine.

They aren't too hard to set up and its basically a case of reading the instructions :)

They will enable you too stream anything on your hard drive wirelessly to a hifi system with a phono in, if you want compact somthing like a Denon M30 mini system would probably suit you so you can have CD and radio too :).
