Hi All

We need a device at work to supply the music on hold for our phone system.

It needs to play an MP3 file on loop continuously, 24 hours a day.

It needs to be mains powered, so that we dont have to keep swapping the batteries - as it will be looked in the hub room.

Ideally as cheap as possible, and should have a 3.5mm audio out .

Just a cheapy MP3 player would probably do fine. Very low cost, audio quality doesn't need to be outstanding as it's (a) only playing MP3 and (b) putting out a signal via a phone. More importantly it's got very few moving parts that could fail and uses virtually no power.

Any pocket MP3 player you care to choose plugged into the mains and one track set to repeat would do it surely?

Why would you need a PC or even a laptop just to play one MP3 on a loop?
