Does anyone have any experience/suggestions with the current crop of networked streamers?

I want to get one for my dad’s christmas/65th/retirement gift, so I am not totally adverse to putting a bit of money into it. I originally looked at the Marantz NA6005 which would be perfect to go along with his Marantz CD player. However from what I have read they are not that great on the software side.

I was thinking of booking a demo in richer sounds (or somewhere like it in Glasgow/Edinburgh) but was wondering if anyone had a suggestion of what I should try? The Cambridge Audio CXN seems to get a good write up on What Hi-Fi but it’s getting on for three times the price of the Marantz.

My two main considerations are of course the quality of the player but ease of use for him is important.

Thanks!

What's your budget?

There are several ways of achieving what you'd like. Personally, the nicest way in my view would be something like a small iPad, Tidal subscription (£9.99 a month) and the replacement for the Cambridge Audio ID100 (or similar dock that will force the iPad to output USB audio rather than through the speakers on the device). That'll output analogue to the aux sockets on the rear of the Marantz.

Job done! :)

I use a Gramafon to stream Spotify to my speaker setup in the kitchen. I've been really happy with it. It supports a variety of streaming services with more being added all the time.

It can play locally stored audio on your phone and PC, using allplay jukebox.

Not sure how you want to use it or what you need, but this just turns any set of speakers or sound setup into one with wireless options.
