sometimes you find a new song, some old track a mainstream band didnt want played or the best work of am unsigned group of kids.. and the lyrics hit home so hard it gets you all choked up (or similar..)
i like finding these :)
i think a good example is aerosmiths 'dont wanna miss a thing..'
but my own personal 2 songs atm...

goo goo dolls- iris

because of the memory that comes with it..

and

snow patrol- chasing cars...

my boyfriend sent me this, and said to me that it wasnt just a normal song-share tune... he told me to listen to the lyrics and it really moved me :)

what's yours?

3 minutes! Most people can't even listen to a song in that amount of time XD

Everything by Alanis Morissette is sorta special to me, was mine and my ex-gf's 'song', makes me depressed in a happy sort of way I suppose ! (Oh how emo  ).

The Manhattan Project by Rush is quite thought provoking also, it's about the first atomic bomb.

you should know what song off the top of your head :p not have to go searching through your computer! i know you, i think youve bullied me before :p you owe me a drink.

Bwahaha you mean you remember my handsome (read: ghastly) rogues gallery picture? :D

EDIT:

In The Name of God by Dream Theater is also thought provoking, centers around the line in the chorus "Does following faith lead us to violence?".

course i know who you are, rover boy.. favourite song?

He likes dance music, chav:p

As you've mentioned, Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, Sewn by The Feeling, and i'm finding more and more music :)

For me, a few off the top of me noggin:

Defiance, Ohio: Lullabies
Horrorpops: Baby Lou Tattoo
Rosa: Asheville
65daysofstatic: Retreat! Retreat!
Ghost Mice: Figure-8, The Devil & My Family

Lullabies is just beautiful, the sentiment of the song is perfect, it makes me feel in love. Baby Lou Tattoo is about getting tattooed and how good it feels. Asheville is about a road trip and has some incredibly sweet lyrics in it that make you feel for the 'I' figure in the song. Retreat! Retreat! Is just a song that makes life beautiful, no matter what I'm doing if I'm plugged in and listening to that it makes it pretty. Figure-8 is about advice a father gives to his son, and tells him never to take, and the father is a racing driver, like mine, so it really makes me smile. The Devil & My Family is just a very very intriguing tale told in a song and makes me go all dreamy.

Easyworld - A Stain To Never Fade
REM - Nightswimming
earthtone9 - Grind And Click
John Vanderslice - Amitriptyline
Tool - Eulogy

That kind of thing.

Oooooh! Carcass - Hepatic Tissue Fermentation.

my most played song: A favor house atlantic by Coheed and Cambria, it was a great song for me to get over my ex, although i'd heard it before then, it's just a great song.

Most of Tools stuff is quite thought-provoking. I love Vicarious as its such an obvious idea but put into song form o amazingly well.

"Wires" by Athlete (disclaimer: I don't like the band, just this one song).. really brings back memories of when my own son was born 10 weeks early and was in SCBU (special care baby unit) for a long time, was touch and go for a bit. Listening to the song can even bring back the exact smells and sounds of the unit, it's scary and the song simultaneously brings back shoot-scary and ecstatic emotions at the same time.

Also "Everything" by Lifehouse, it got a lot of radio play around the time and would always be on when I was driving the lonely 30min drive back home after visiting my partner and son in the hospital every night after work.
Find Me Here
Speak To Me
I want to feel you
I need to hear you
You are the light
That's leading me
To the place where I find peace again.

You are the strength, that keeps me walking.
You are the hope, that keeps me trusting.
You are the light to my soul.
You are my purpose...you're everything.

How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

You calm the storms, and you give me rest.
You hold me in your hands, you won't let me fall.
You steal my heart, and you take my breath away.
Would you take me in? Take me deeper now?
Man, four years on and it still makes me well up.. <manly cough>.. enough of that. It almost seemed the lyrics were my son speaking to me, telling me it would all be okay and he trusted me..
