Music/Video Converter

Can anyone recommend a good music/video file converter for the Iphone? After downloading version 5 of the software all my stored songs and videos were wiped off the phone for some reason. I had a converter on my old PC, but I cant remember what it was called.

Also why cant I transfer the files directly from itunes into my phone? You'd think they would be compatible if I downloaded it directly from itunes!

I'm pretty sure I did back it up. All my apps and photos were saved. Just not the songs and videos.

When I sync in intunes it doesnt transfer the songs I have downloaded in my library. I've also tried manually dragging them into the phone, but they wont go.

Theres an option you gotta click for letting you manually manage the songs. I didnt have that checked.
