What are the must have books for all round sports training. My particular interests are weight training and nutrition. I'm hoping to pick up a few suggestions from this thread and a couple I was looking at so far is Strength Training Anatomy by Frederic Delavier and Sports Nutrition (Complete Guide to).

Any more suggestions are appreciated...

Strength Training Anatomy is a good book to start with. Also do a search for books by Tudor Bompa, he's done allot of work on periodization training, which isnt exactly what your asking for but a good read all the same.

I have just bought the following books:
  • Strength Training Anatomy
Both are absolutely amazing!

The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding is a veritable bible... I got the hardback edition from the USA for £25 ($50) and it is HUGE. I had a good flick through yesterday and I have to say... the writing is incredibly good... interesting, informative, and very intelligent and insightful. The book explains everything you can think of in great detail using clear and concise language, yet with a tinge of character and humour that means it's by no means a chore to read. Every aspect of training/bodybuilding is covered... and it has great guides for every level, providing you with info/routines for specific body types and builds. Great diet section too, it's such a complete work. I really love this book, i'm going to read it in depth soon.

Strength Training Anatomy is imo an essential partner to the above, it is an idiots guide to anatomy, giving clear pictoral guides to how each and every exercise affects your body and its' specific muscle groups. I ufrustrated myself with not knowing what exercises I needed to do to work specifric muscle groups and now it's all a lot clearer.

These two books really are must-haves for people like me who are really only starting out and don't know all the answers, and I imagine they have a lot to offer the more experienced guys too.

Essential purchases. :)
