Must have things when driving?

CDs, ration pack, large coat, hi vis jacket, jack, tools, fire extinguisher, jump leads, 1 litre of oil, 2 litres of water, first aid kit, can of tyreweld, AA Card, tent.

First aid kits, top-up oil, warning triangle - but this is all stuff that came with my car which I've not bothered taking out.

I guess the only thing I would be miffed about not having would be my Sunglasses.

When out driving i only really carry, my wallet, mobile and some audio tapes (yes the head unit is that bad and only one speaker works), also carry water. All these people saying jack i keep thinking why is everyone carrying around jack daniels? :p

I though most cars come with some sort of jack as standard?

yeah water, map, torch and maybe some tools all good ideas, keeping a spare mobile in the car aswell.

sorry to break this to you mate but it wouldn't make any difference if you went to sleep under the bonnet.
if you're in your car and you have the keys on your person or anywhere else in the vehicle, you will be charged and banned.

Thought there was a case similar to this recently where the police charged someone with drink driving after finding him sleeping in the back seats, but it was thrown out of court?

AA Card, jack, wheel brace, set of socket wrenches, couple of golf clubs incase I wanna go over the driving range, also useful if I get in trouble, thats about it really. O also my keys :p

agreed.

Plus a BIG maglite, those torches are good in emergencies, and not just the road rage kind ;)

without the specifics i couldn't comment on such a case, however it is an offence to be in charge of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
having the keys with you counts as being in charge.
i mentioned in another thread that a friend of mine who had lost his house keys while on a night out, but still had his car keys on him posted said car keys through his letterbox before going to sleep in his car.(as obviously he couldn't get into his house :p )
the police did wake him at some point during the night but could not charge him as he wasn't equipped to drive the car, namely no keys present.

What difference does it make, starting an engine is starting an engine

If you bump start it, more unburnt fuel passes through to the exhaust system which can cause the premature death of the lamba sensor or hotspot the cat. Just something to avoid if you can imo

Iam betting everyones cars here weigh over a ton and half fully loaded, not good for mpg or performance. I dont really carry anything unless Iam going on a journey somewhere out of town and no more then a tenners worth of fuel :D

Its the unburnt fuel burning in the exhaust thats the problem. Massive shock to the brittle catalystic convertor and will damaged/ destroy it

Hmmm, that sucks. :(

Edit: Been looking around and tis all on a grey area on "intention to drive" I guess being in a sleeping bag that you purposefully brought along would help. Still not worth risking it though.

Well that ends my seemingly flawless streak of going to friend's houses, getting wrecked and then sleeping whilst harming nobody.
