Parasites alter behaviour

Its really quite freaky. A parasite in the brain of a rat alters its behaviour so it actively seeks out its preditor! And it seems a similar parasite is present in pple with schizophrenia, and when placed in a dish that parasite is killed by neuroleptics!!

There was something a vaguely similar on the news a couple of days ago about parasites having an impact on the immune system - turns out theres some research on the go suggesting that being infected with hookworm can suppress allergic responses and have a significant impact against asthma.

I'm not sure how many people would voluntarily want to infect themselves in such a way though :s
