MW2 - FPS

they might have upped it to 100 or something but i know they locked it low so you can;t get the 125/333 quake engine glitch fps's.

Unless im really missunderstanding the relationship between FPS and refresh rate, whats the point in the 120 refresh rate setting in the options then if it can never be achieved?

ah thought you meant on your monitor/gfx drivers, if that's in game then yeah it will work.

You get advantages at 125 so must have locked it just below that.

Really? I knew about the jumping marginally higher as i recall a lot of people used it to strafe jump slightly higher. Didn't know it made you run faster/quieter though.

Due to the rounding errors in the movement vectors you could potentially move faster - usually you had to build up speed with a number of strafe beats tho so outside of jump maps and ctf flag runs its of limited advantage. Even less useful in MW as your not really circle strafing as part of normal movement.

There was also a bug which only really kicked in with high fps locks, 333 sometimes but usually 500fps which would screw with footstep sounds, but its a bit unpredictable.

I hate the fps locking tho... its a lazy half assed measure that potentially is a disadvantage to clients - some people might see tearing, jerkiness or a laggy feel due to it conflicting with vsync or refresh settings. Its fairly simple to fix simulation as well so everyone is seeing "125fps" physics which feel more natural anyhow.

Is the multiplayer fps cap not more to do with the p2p? Keeping everyone's systems as even as possible so that the to and fro of data flows more smoothly. That's what I always assumed.

jump higher and run faster are the main 2 iirc.

125 fps is the most efficient fps in Q3 for reaching maximum volicity during pr0 movement. As mavity is also affected by velocity, this means you can jump higher and further.

There's a decent explanation here :)

basically, in all Q3 engine games you want to set com_maxfps 125, and make sure you have a rig/settings that can get a minimum 125 fps.
