Hi guys, i made a short post in the MW2 thread, but with it being so big it's probably better i made a new topic, so here it is.

I sold my xbox 3 months ago (might be longer, i carn't remember) and when i played back then it was fine, got half way on 7th prestige and had no problems at all.

No fast forward to last week and i decided to buy myself an xbox again with MW2 to play while i wait for black-ops (wife pre-ordered it and told me i could get another xbox :))

So i turned it on, recovered my gamertag, got a live subscription and downloaded the map pack that i got last time i played, setup all my classes ready to play.

And then here is where i hit my problem, I try to join a game online (does not matter what game, ive tried them all) and it searches for a game (goes to 100%) and keeps on doing this over and over and over again, and never gets me into a game.

So i did a google searched and found a site about NAT being restricted, i had a look and indeed it was restricted (Not sure why as the router has not been touched since i played last) so i opened the ports suggested on the website.

Restarted my xbox, loaded the game back up, and NAT was open :) yay i thought. Went to join a game, and it took a good 10mins (might have been longer) to connect to a game where it was me and one other player, and had to wait ages for the lobby to have enough players to get into game :(

My xbox is connected VIA wireless, but i also tried connecting with it connected directly to the router.

All i can find of the net about the problem is changing NAT to open or internet connection being too slow. But my internet has not changed and my NAT type is now open.

Anyone got any ideas what else it could be? Or what else i can do?

The past couple of days ive been playing MW1 and it connects to a game within seconds and plays fine, so don't understand why im having so much trouble with MW2

that happens to me sometimes, but not EVERY time i try play.

try the games with most people in

also check your connection, make sure no one is downloading etc. i can only join the 100+ms ping games if someone else is on my connection. when there not i can get straight in the 40/50 ones

Happens EVERY time i try :(

It also happens when my xbox is the only device connected to the router (Or plugged in directly to the modem)

Just don't understand why MW1 works find and is very fast at joining games

Ive not only tried another copy of MW2, ive even tried another xbox :o

Managed to get a router of a mate to try tonight to see if that makes any difference  :(

Well only got to have a quick go at fixing it last night, but it's defiantly not the router either, so ive tried a second....

xbox
MW2
router

So the only thing i can think of is the modem? Im guessing MW2 connects differently to MW1.

So going to play around with the modem tonight and see how i get on. Ill update the thread if i find a fix

I just don't understand why MW1 works so well and MW2 is giving so many problems.

Whats worse is there is 2 xbox's in the house that play MW2 online (Well want too) so once ive got mine sorted ive got to do the other one.

So even DMZ for the one xbox will get the NAT type to open and let me play (after a wait) it's no good for the second xbox

Couldn't give it a go last night (Wife needed the internet to put stuff for sale on ebay) so i just played MW1 instead

So tonight (hopefully) im going to plug the xbox directly into the modem and have a play with the settings to try and get it to work.

Once that's done atleast i know i just have to sort the router (If it's not already working)

Well i got to have a play with the modem last night, and it really is a STUPID modem lol.

Everytime i changed a setting, i saved/restarted. The modem would boot back up and have no internet, and the only way to fix would be to factory reset and use the laptop to setup with username/password.

STUPID $£"%$^^"!^ TALKTALK

So.... Now i have given up on this modem, im thinking i can just get anouther modem (a more uptodate one) that WILL work.

Does anyone have a list of modems that will work with talktalk? Don't want to buy one to find out talktalk can only be used on there modems. (maybe best of asking in the network forum?)

Had abit of luck with this last night....

Used a router stolen from my brother (he plays with open NAT with it) and it said strict still. BUT i could connect to games :D (took 3-5mins tho)

Seen online that for his router i need to update the firmware, downloaded the latest and it failed (then found out it was virgin media branded) and was unable to update.

So im going to order a modem/router combo (could do with one anyway) and hopefully i should be ok.

Shocking how much work is needed to play a damn game! Hope i can get it all sorted before black-ops (or it's like MW1 for connection instead of MW2 :p)

Ive been on Virgin Media and Orange.

Both had no problems. Im guessing/hoping it's talktalks **** modem that is there problem, as a router will only take me so far no matter what i do.

So im praying that a better modem will help. Ive looked online and there is a list of modem/routers that people have had no problems with strict NAT and more than 1 xbox, so ill get one of them and try my luck.

So you weren't on TalkTalk last time you had a 360/MW2?

I'm guessing it could be something to do with the fact that TalkTalk (used to at least) packet shape to block use of P2P, now obviously Live/MW2 is P2P.

I hope that is not the route cause of your problem.

It might be time to switch suppliers.

Would i not have issues with MW1 too? I thought that was P2P?

If still having problems after replacing the modem/router then yeah will deffo be switching

It depends really, from what I have read about the subject (going back a couple of years) it can be an intermittent problem.

Back in 2005 when I was on TT with xbox live I had problems connecting to some games due to this, others were fine, but some just wouldn't connect.

I had a nightmare speaking to the indian call centre (fortunately I worked at CPW at the time, so I justsat in the back office whilst getting it sorted), but it literally took weeks of phoning them, I ended up moving and the issue never got sorted.

So........

Decided to go bed early with the wife to play some xbox last night. Turned on my xbox and MW2 was in there (Hadn't tested since the new router) so thought i would see if that one will join games too. And nat was OPEN :O so tryed to join a game, and it still took just aslong to join a game as the one downstairs with strict nat =\

Then joined a party to play with one other person, and it just kept saying need x more players, didn't merge us or nobody joined us :( (gave up after 15mins)

So altho i can play if i wait 3-5min to find a game, party fails :(

Ring your isp they may be blocking specific ports related to the 360, I know very unlikely but who knows lol!!
