Will MW3 be in the same DX9? I was hoping theyre doing a DX11 V for PC, I am looking forward to both MW3 & BF3 but seem to be playing a lot of MW2 atm so eagerly awaiting MW3.

I google'd it but couldnt come up with much.

cheers

Yes dx9
Same engine as Mwf 2 with new skins and maps.

As disappointing as that is, It could be worse I suppose. The MW2 engine is 1 of the best DX9 engine's out there IMO, very smooth and never had any problems.

I hope theyre taking all this time developing a new DX11 engine that's as good a quality as the MW2 engine.

cheers

From what I can tell it's a modified ID Tech 4 engine (someone feel free to correct me on that, of course) so it's quite a decent one. It's just that the CoD games aren't known for their innovation usually :)

I actually think Call of Duty games are still running a heavily modified id Tech 3 engine.

I thought that previously but looking at the wikipedia entry (not a great source, I know), it mentions texture streaming, which I thought was related to megatexture/ID Tech 4.

I'm probably wrong though.

I might well be as well but the general "feel" of Call of Duty games is closer to Quake 3 than Doom 3. :p

I know the first CoD games (1 and 2) were based off id Tech 3 but I think IW/Treyarch just carried that engine on and modified it for future games.

Yup as above its a heavily modified idtech 3 engine - with COD4 they ripped out the entire renderer and replaced it with a DX renderer (was previously Open GL) so in that regard you can look at the rendering engine as a new engine tho it still uses the same mechanics as the original renderer ideology wise. With MW2 they took it a step further and added new shaders and other features so I suspect with MW3 they will take it a step further again and added newer shader features and so on.

Personally I like that its built on top of the idtech3 technology as it gives a fluid experience in both FPS consistancy and movement/response that a lot of engines don't typically have.

The texture streaming is a DX feature and quite different to megatexture streaming tho not completely unrelated.

id Tech 4 isn't a very good multiplayer engine anyway, it's not fluid or "fast" feeling enough.
