Hi, I know there's a few of you on here so hopefully at least 1 of you is tall. :p

I went for a drive in 1.8 Mk2 yesterday, and one word.... WOW! It felt great with the top down, listening to that lovely exhaust. Plus the feeling of speed with being so close the ground made me go about 20mph slower while feeling 20mph faster. All in all, I loved it! :D

But...it's a bit small. I'm over 6ft, probably about 6ft 3 and did feel quite cramped with the lack of legroom. I currently drive a focus which has loads of room, but the mx-5 was equal to this with headroom it could just do with a few more inches for my legs.

I did fit in it, and I was pretty comfortable. Getting out was a pain, but I could get use to that.

But my question to you lot is, are any of you over 6ft and if so do you use the mx-5 as the daily driver? More importantly are you comfortable, can you still walk after a long trip? :p

I think I would be ok with it, I'm just not use the driving position but I admit it did feel rather cramped. I wish i was shorter.. :(

I'm around 6'1" I think... I've got the seat shoved right back and it's fine for me. But I'm quite well distributed legs vs. body :p There are ways of making the seat go back further but that's quite a lot of work, similarly you can get the pedals shoved a bit more forward... once again that's a lot of work. You get used to it, I certainly wouldn't highlight that as a bad point as I ignore it whilst having so much fun driving it! :D

Is yours a fun weekend car, or daily driver?

I'm 95% sure I'd get use to it, my 1st car was a Nova and I managed to squeeze in that for long enough. Probem I have is that I'm all leg, I really am just 2 legs and a head, that's it! :o

Was such fun though, I'll have to do some more test drives so I can look at it practically and not just think "I want it Nooowwww!!"

Do you know if the mk 2.5 was any bigger, or is it only the mk3 that has a serious difference?

Only change (Relating to driving position) with the Mk2.5 was the seats not sure if that gave anymore room, check it out ;)

I'm just about 6ft (Slightly under) i've been out for 4 hours random drives and came back feeling like i'd just got in.

Mine is just a weekend / good weather car :)

The difference in the 2.5 was merely cosmetic. The mk3 is bigger - it's got a bit too big imo, but is a fantastic car... still feels fun, but is a little too "civilised" now ;)

My mx5 is my main car, though I'm mostly on 2 wheels. I have access to other cars if I ever need more space so for me it's an ideal car. :)

I drove all the way to swansea in it for the swansea meet and it was fine, to be honest I'm used to stopping when on the bike (140 miles range) so I quite enjoy stopping for a cup of coffee every couple of hours anyway, no matter what size of car I drive.

The fun and enjoyment outwieghs small things like a bit of cramped conditions ;)

6'2" and I fit. It depends on how you sit at to how much headroom you have.

I use it as a daily drive.

I'm comfortable and prefer the fact that I am lowdown and the dash is large.

Everyone has 'problems' getting in and out compared to a regular car, regardless of height or lack thereof.

Comfortable on long trips? No. But Its nothing I dont get in any other car

Ok thanks guys, you've helped settle some of my worries.

It was just a normal 1.8 I was in yesterday, when I'm really after a 1.8i or 1.8iS so I'm trying to find one locally for another test drive.

I doubt I'll do many long trips in it anyway, I've only been on 2 longs trips since I got the focus last year. Most of the time I just drive to work (it's only 9 miles) or hoon about on country roads for fun.

Now...back to Autotrader. :D

The "s" in my opinion is the best one to go for. You get an LSD, electric mirrors, ABS and slightly more stiff suspension. Eitherway it's cracking fun! :D Make sure you show her off to us when you get one ;)
