I recently got myself a new job so I can finally be rid of my awful Seicento temp car that was tiding me over until I resumed employment. With my car fund ready in the bank I have my heart set on a fun car, a 2-seater convertible with at least some boot space and with reasonable performance up to the 3-grand range.

After looking about, the MX5 seemed the obvious choice. I really like the Mk1's, and have been hunting for a V-spec 1.8 in British racing green, cream leather, BBS alloys and a hardtop for winter.

However I stumbled upon this ad

Not heard much about them. It's not exactly in the same class but it's still technically a convertible for some summer fun and has more power though it's front wheel drive. Worth considering for the 'V-TEC YO' aspect?

Anybody have any other alternatives or just go with my original MX5 plan? I'm not interested in an MG.

Sweet Lord! 173 bhp?

This is a car for the lulz surely?

It's FWD though, I would go and test one out.

Modded 500 in your sig...

I've often wanted to drop a 2.0 16V Turbo (190bhp) from the Coupe into a Barchetta, fit a basic roll cage behind the seats and give it a classic 124 style paint job (red with black bonnet and boot maybe).

A mk2 Toyota MR2, they look stunning, fun to drive, very reliable and even have a decent sized boot.

One below is mine, its a t-bar so the roof comes out easily for those rare sunny days

They have dated very badly in the last few years imho.

I've got to disagree. Considering the MX5 and MR2 were released in the same year, surely you'd say that the MR2 has dealt with the years better?

That being said, for sheer drop top fun I don't think anything will beat a good old 'Five.
