my mx518 has developed a dodgy scroll wheel. I use it for gaming but every 10 clicks up it misses a click and that makes selecting weapons in game very hit and miss, im thinking about buying another one, but will try ti fix it if I can, has anyone opened one up? Is it complex and could I put it back together again?

I opened up a logitech cordless click and it was easy enough, but mine had broken because the rubber had expanded so i couldn't fix it.
They use an optical sensor which detects movement using small slits in the scroll wheel, you might find that one of these is blocked which would cause it to miss a 'click', if so that would be easy to fix.

I rung them up but they said that as it was a hardware fault then I must speak to the retailer, thing is its older than a year. I want to take it apart but there are no screws and it looks like it clips together somehow, anyone done this?

there are 3 screws on the bottom of a 518 - 2 at the front and 1 at the rear- They are covered by stickers usually. Undo those 3 and the mouse will come apart.

Be careful because it's easy to lose one the springs that fit on the mouse wheel

^true, I often hear of them sending a new one without even asking you to post yours back, great service.

I had a few probs with the old blue one ones and they sent me the mx518 as a replacement, i forgot to send the oldone back that eventually worked again anyway

Great CS if hard to understand :)

theres deffo screws.

try looking at the stickers on the underside, theres usually thin +'s sliced near screws.

You can find them by pushing your thumb around the sticker and making a dent into the screw head.
