I was going to get a G500 but I was put off about some comments regarding the scroll wheel i.e. too quick, inaccurate. And as I have seen that lots of people recommend the MX518...and with the 'This week only' offer it seems a good time to buy it.

I wanted to know about the scroll wheel. The G5 scrollwheel I currently have has nearly stopped registering and am in the process of trying to RMA it...but it really has been a pain (not OC).

Had my MX518 for a few weeks now and the scroll wheel has worked perfectly. It never gets stuck, or doesn't spin properly. And the other way, it doesn't spin too easily.

I think the only problem is when I spin it too hard to move down pages faster, I sometimes press the - button to reduce the DPI. When that does happen though I can just press the +, not the mouse's fault however.

Not sure if it's the same as the MX500 style wheel, but that can get stuck with fluff after a while (like a year), and be stiff to move.

Also, I've found that the buttons die relatively quickly if used for a fps. (microswitches have a limited life span).

I have had my mx518 for 4 years now...100% reliable scroll wheel never let me down not stiff all buttons work super like it was new...bad points atm fluff can get into optical sensor just use blunt pin to remove...my pads on the bottom have come off over the years and had to super glu them back on...at the moment 1 is missing and is jerky to move but im going to buy a new one this week for sure..no batteries to change...its so damn reliable..I'll eat my mouse if you don't like yours, well I wont really:P

Oh and i use my pc 95% of time for gaming css,crysis,bc2 etc etc

had mine for a few weeks now and no scroll wheel problems at all! if you do get problems just ring logitech there customer service is meant to be amazing!

I had a MX500 right mouse button switch fail after six months, however the MX518 I replaced it with is still going strong after 4 years. Excellent purchase.

Feels just like the one on my MX510, which has been used and abused and still works like day one (aged a bit smoother and less 'clicky' actually). Like the buttons, they are built to last.

hmm you may have got a bum one, mine still works great (touch wood).
