Hi...

I don't need keyboard,mouse,speakers..or optical drives..

I'm going to use it for Video Editing using PowerDirector 7
and also it needs to be able to max out new games liike the
forthcoming title "Mercenaries 2"

Is this spec ok,, Or should I change a few things around to suit my needs.

Thanks..

I'd have said if your going to spend circa that figure on a gpu and want to stick with nVidia then buy a 260GTX for slightly more money.

The other thing I did wonder was the gigabyte P35 DS3R motherboard tho a bit more money than the DS3L might work better with all that RAM + high end CPU, etc. you definatly want to check that the motherboard will work with 8gigs of RAM.

Personally I'd have bought the OCZ ProXStream 1000watt or GameXStream 700watt but thats just a personal thing.

Also CPU wise the Q6600 might be better for video editing stuff if your software can take advantage of multiple cores.

Other than that its pretty much spot on what I'd have specced up.

as rroff said i'd go with a q6600 as you're going to be using it for video editing.

change the memory to the GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Black Dragon, on the money saved change the gfx card to the powercolour 4870.

get Q6600 instead of 8500, cheaper faster stronger better

get 4850 or 4870, the 9800GTX is basically a modified 8800GT

get a tuniq tower instead of ac7 if you are going to be overclocking

get 1TB samsung F1, because its faster, uses less space and saves power

Are you going to edit more or game more ? If you just edit a slight bit then stick with the E8500.

Get the GeIL BLack Dragon PC8500 for this CPU.
change GPU to either 4850 or 4870.

Tuniq tower or TRUE as cpu cooler is a must.
dont forget to grab a tube of MX-2.

And I would go with either 20 or 24 monitor, imo 22 is waste of cash, it offers nothing extra over 20 and you could just as well add few quid and get 24" which are extremely cheap now.

he said he is video editing, even if thats 1 hour a week the quad is needed, same performance in games, cheaper price..

22 isnt a waste of cash..

find me a 24inch monitor with a 2ms refresh rate for under 200?...

my friend recently got the monitor in the OP and tbh, compared to my 24inch its well worth the money, and really id recommend getting a good 20/22 than a cheap 24

I'd say scrap Vista ;) save 70 pounds, translate it into better Graphics or motherboard.

Q6600 will do your video editing fine, I use it and 4GB ram to encode and process 1080P HD footage and it never takes long.

I'd go for a good intel chipset that supports crossfire. I'm an Nvidia fanboy but I'm more than willing to go to ATI for better performance on a more stable chipset. Nforce motherboards overclock poorly.

EDIT: Also, i know you probably think you need 8GB for video editing, its still an awful amount of money. Get 4GB now, cheaply, and upgrade easily later at a lower price. IMO its not necessary as programs and games today still need to be compatible with 32bit OS, in most cases it means you wont use more than 2GB when playing games - even when you need it, like supreme commander large matches against AI, thousands of units, still limited by 2GB per application. 4GB is more than enough for a couple of years to come, and when that time does come it will be a lot CHEAPER.
