ok i got a x1950pro pcie i had since launch soo about year and half, anyway recently its started crashing more and this i found out was due to heat.

i have cleaned the card of all dust including the fan blades and the actually cooler on it. so it looks new. but the card still crashed when it gets to about 72c. this is very high to be honest as i know when i got it it would get nearer 80 and never crashed when i was overclocking it.

so how come its more suseptable to heat now ? does it mean something is wearing out or ???

at moment i get round it but using a sep program to run the onbaord fan faster but that just makes more noise lol

The fan at default runs at silly speeds and that why the card is probably over heating.

Download Rivatuner and set the fan speed to 50% and see how you get on, also have you got fans fron and back of the case bringing cold air?

Yeah upping the fan rpm should do it, did for my GTS :)

It does make more nosie but hey less crashing :D

I remember a few X1950Pro's were crashing due to poor VRM cooling?

Hmmm maybe consider slapping a Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 on it?

Falling that you could consider an RMA? (are they two years these days?).

yea i have fans front and back its a p180 case. but you may have missed the issue

the board never used to crash i have had it 18months only started about 3 months ago. i have increased fan speed using atitool soo i can stop it crashing.

but why does heat effect it more than it used to ?

Global Warming :p

Chuck it out, don't spend one penny on it. I had one, I've nothing good to say about it, & when it died I got an 8800GT. This is a number of times faster than the old dog.
