Installing the drivers first ???? lol..

Best thing to do is grab the new drivers before hand and have them ready for when you install the OS. Saves lots of faffing around later.

I think he's intending to try and keep the current install, hence the "install the drivers first" comment. I would however strongly recommend reinstalling everything, as changing a mobo over might potentially cause all sorts of problems in your current install, even assuming you can pre-install all of the new mobo's drivers up front (which is doubtful).

Always best to wipe your current installation and start from scratch as that then removes any possible conflicts you could have in the future.

Also nice to use a fresh install of windows from time to time, its actually quiet responsive then :P

ok cheers, il go find my xp 32 bit disk, realy want vista 64 bit now I have quad and 3gb of memory

I expect we all have our own preferred way of doing this.

First..back all your data up. (stuff you want to keep)
If you don't know how to save your e-mail from within say Outlook Express or your address book ask!!
You can save more or less anything if you know how.
You may also want to download the latest drivers for your mobo graphics etc and save them to disc.

Once your sure you have it all....change BIOS to boot CD and put windows CD in drawer.
Hit any key to boot from CD and follow the instructions.

I like to have more than one partition, but thats a personal thing and depends on the size of your drive.

TIP: Dont do anything if your unsure.

ADDED: If your XP disc is an older one (not SP2) you might consider making a new one.

Ok ive installed new mobo and cpu, bios detect it all well. I load windows it and just restarts all by itself all the time grrrr. gone and trying to install a fresh xp, any idea why it restarting tho?

It's restarting because of driver conflicts. Rule of thumb; Change a motherboard, re-install OS.

The only time i've seen it remotely work without a fresh install of an OS is with mobo's that use the same chipset (like nForce) and even then you're still likely to get an error.
