I get home today and switch my PC on.
Everything is fine.

But I go to Control panel and the window opens and its completely empty !!
How odd...
So I try again... Empty.
So I restart and try again.. empty.
Now I try opening it and the window flashes up for a second before closing again.

I go to windows update... nothing at all opens.

I go to system restore and get

There was an unexpected error
Class not registered (0x80040154)
Please close system restore and try again.

Something aint right.

How can I do a "repair" ??

HELP !!!

Sounds pretty fubared, not come accross anyone with that yet i don't think. Funny i was going to come in here and congratulate you on only having one problem, but i feel that problem probably makes up for all of mine...

I have managed to do a system restore from booting up from the DVD.
Fingers crossed....
I go to my control panel and..........

ITS ALL THERE !!!!!!!!!!
WHOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Thank god for system restore and all that :D

I have the same problem occasionally of control panel flashing up then dissapearing again. Shortly followed by a "Superfetch has stopped working" message then usually a BSOD. Reboot sorts it right out tho.

I don't have one of those.
I suspect the problems were from a system clean up I did (with a utility that got 4.5 stars out of 5) :(

just curious, did you try a "system restore" using the options from the "tasks" on the left of pane, in backup and restore

or did you try and "restore files", because if you havn't made a restore file backup you can get this error code

did this myself before I noticed the two different options

I typed System Restore in the taskbar and when I clicked on it I got that message :(

It obviously did exist somewhere because I had 3 restore points waiting for me when I booted up and repaired with my Vista DVD !!
I have since expanded my system restore size to 5gb... just incase :D
