I waited, and i waited some more, for the rain to stop. it didnt, so i said sod it. and have had the car for the last hour or so.

Exterior:

first impressions are that its your regular classic impreza sti. Then you notice the flared arches all round and the rather large prodrive front calipers. The body work was immaculate, not a scratch to be found and no fading on any part of the body. The wheels looked like they were less than a year old, so had obviously been well kept.

Interior:

I have only driven 3 subarus now to date. Wills original silver sti, a friend of mines standard p1, and now this.

The interiors are all very similar, all packed with dials that tell you everything you need to know, all two tone blue and black alcantara seating etc. The 22b was no different, atop the centre console was a defi 3 guage pod, with water temp on the left, oil pressure in the middle and a boost guage on the right. There were no pillar pods or steering wheel mounted pods or anything, which was good to see.

Having used the defi guages "play" function, and seeing what all the guages had peaked at, water being 95, oil pressure a tad over 8kg/m and boost at 1.3 i proceeded to start up the car.

Initial Startup:

After realising that i had to press the immobilser fob once more before it would start, the car roared awake and settled quickly to a burbly purr. The oil pressure was steady at just under 6kg/m, which, to my limited subaru knowledge, is pretty good / ok ??

I noticed the centre diffrential was set at 2 notches from the top, leading me to believe that this was set to be more front bias? i quickly turned the c.diff switch all the way back, which as far as i know is all rwd?? someone please correct me if im wrong, as said, i have very limited subaru knowledge.

Handling:

After getting myself comfortable and letting the car warm up for 10mins or so, i began to "give it some pain". At this point i realised, a standard seat in the subaru interior is not good for someone who is 6ft 8, just be warned :p i looked akin to the guy on the simpsons episode who is around 7ft and driving somethihing very small.

The first thing i noticed, was the sharpess and accuracy of the steering. I am well aware of what the car is meant to be, but i didnt expect the handling to be this accruate and sublime. The suspension was expectedly stiff, allowing me to feel everything through the car, which is something that i do like in cars.

Engine:

Boost uptake was quick, quicker than i expected actually, the lag was minimal in all gears except at very low revs in 4th and 5th which is understandable.

The boost peaked at jexactly 1.3 and didnt even flutter while under full load, and the oil pressure was steady at 8kg/m, also the water temp was perfect at 95 - all as the defi guage had showed me before i even started the car.

I went around some local country roads, they were, thankfully, not very busy as i soon found out why the centre diff was so importatn, the first 2 round abouts that i gave it some off i had lovely rear wheel power slide ongoing - this is where someone will be able to help me, is it ONLY rear wheel drive when the diff is at completely the first setting? as it didnt feel like any power at all was going to the front. - i then tried the centre diff in diffrerent positions, and i found that the central selection was very much like the R32 in the way it gripped, even in the wet there was very little slippage under heavy load.

Im not sure what else there is to say? I think this is one of the closest things you can get to a road legal rally car. Suspension/Handling - 9/10, engine/power - 8/10, overall, id say, at least an 8. The only down sides for me are a) its a subaru, so no matter how rare an edition it is people will still see it as a subaru, and b) im a lanky git and would have to purchase some bride seats to fit :p

thats all now, im going to take itback the long way :D
 
Lucky mofo! Many would give their right arm to drive what you've just played in. They are actually supposed to be better with some more boost and power.
 
The 22B is an amazing car. A mate used to own one and he let me drive it, and it was just fantastic. I was amazed at how different it felt to the Scoob I had at the time (346bhp), it just felt more 'alive', just really eager and 'precise'. Power delievery was totally different too, with oodles of torque. It did feel like it tailed off towards the top though, but that was because I was used to my scoob which made peak power/torque way up high.

EDIT: WRT to the diff setting, it goes from 35/65 (all the way back) to 50/50 (all the way forward).

Nice! Would love to drive a 22B at some point :cool:

The DCCD has various settings, from open (power goes to the wheels with the least resistance, giving RWD feel) to fully locked (not recommended for road use, you'll most likely slither off the road into a hedge at the first bend ;)). About 2/3rds locked is about the same as a UK car. In dry conditions, stick it on open, wet wind it forward a bit. Or if it has an auto setting, just use that ;)
 
gotta say though, whilst power sliding it still felt as if i had full control. i just pointed it the right way and eased of the throttle for a split second and then flat out again and it just went.

very impressed.
 
a very good mate of mine has a 3door cossie, 380hp, its actually a 1.6 shell with everything uprated to rs500 spec, everytime he takes me out in it i become a different person lol, get all giggly and excited. it doesnt help that hes a nutter behind the wheel, as in knows how to drive properly.

hes just finished a 450hp nova with an engine in the boot, only 700kg!

Ive only driven the cossie once but i still remember it, its awesome, better than the ferraris ive been out in tbh!
