My 2nd Hard Disk is annoying me..help!

I've got 2 hard disks inside my computer, a 1TB Samsung and a 1.5TB Western Digital.

The Samsung is used for the system and the WD for storage.

My problem is that when I'm installing something, opening a folder or just doing nothing on the computer. The 2nd Hard disk freezes the computer while it starts up whirring away till its at full pelt. Even though I'm not using any file or program on the hard disk and none of my computers background programs are using it.

Whats going on? Its really annoying losing 5 seconds at a time while I pointlessly wait for it to start even when I haven't summoned it in any way.

Check your indexing settings in control panel, double check that indexing on your other hard drive is disabled. This may help.

If you add a swap file to the second disk, this should keep it awake, alternatively, set the hard disks to never turn off in your power management settings.
