So that is that, as the clock ticked from 11:59 to midnight the warranty on my launch 360 finally expired. After three years soldiering on valiantly ignoring the cries of its downed comrades, my box has finally reached the point of no return. From here on in I'm on my own and the spectre of three red lights hangs over me like the sword of damocles; I dare not engage in any more late night sessions of my favourite games, lest pressing that button that once promised so much were to cause a chain reaction ending the life of that little white box.

So anyone else worried about their warrantyless 360s?

I wouldnt be worried,

If it ever breaks just either pay someone else to fix it or fix it yourself using a X Clamp fix which can be found at various places round the net.

I'd hold on to it till (if?) it dies then just pop out and buy an arcade. There's no sense in getting rid of it while it's still working imo and i doubt you'd get much for it on ebay considering how old it is, especially since it's now out of warranty.

[EDIT] Forgot to mention, i'd then set about repairing the broken unit in my spare time, nothing wrong with an spare console!

If it did fail I'd be inclined to contact trading standards regarding not fit for use. It has a well documents design fault from launch. Failing the bothered ness of that if you do get a failure and contact MS I wonder if they will fix it anyway. Afterall its cheaper than any sort of product recall they have so far avoided.

Afterall if MS thought they were squeaky clean they wouldn't have done the extension to from 12months to 3 years would they ;)

My warranty runs out on 19/01/09 and I've only just moved it into a shelf below the TV which is more closed in than it's usual home....fingers crossed it's not going to whinge.

My console which I bought on launch day RRoD'd for the first time in August. Managed to fix it myself though by replacing all the metal washers and those useless x-clamps.

Works fine once again, even though I have an Elite as well. I just hate it when things stop working :)

Because none of the "fixes" out there are permanent, they only buy you a few more months if your lucky most of the time only a few weeks, your just putting off the inevitable.

Replacing the x-clamps is a permenant fix for some of the causes of the red rings. Not all admittedly, but enough to make it worth while. I would certainly prolong the life of the machine as much as possible rather than spend another £100 or so.

Good man,

Thats what I like to hear... a bit of DIY :)

I honestly can't fathom why anyone would just go straight out and buy another console when the fix is so easy. Even if it does just get you a few more months, that's better than nothing!
