Has anyone got any suggestions what I should do?

My 360 has been sitting horrizontally in my TV cabinet, but now my COD4 CD is scratched to buggery. It wasnt moved with the DVD in or anything!

Im too scared to put any other game in the DVD draw now!

Cheers guys, I've called them... they want £50 as I'm outside of the warranty period.
Think Im going to be brave and try another disk.... before I consider sending it back.

Will contact Activision regarding the COD4 disk... see what that will cost to replace!

don't put in a game! try a music cd or something. preferrably one you don't like, or one of your girlfriends/boyfriends/sisters/brothers/dads/mums/friends (delete as applicable!)

Hehe.
I used Halo3 as Im aware of the Microsoft Disk returns policy so no hardship if it screwed it up! :)

It seems fine, Now im starting to wonder if someone else in the household actually moved the 360 at some stage with COD4 in the drive.... because I dont recall hearing the CD Death Rattle... (Disk works fine for the first 3 levels then craps out)

DVD is currently covered in toothpaste.... hopefully to save me trying to convince the game shop to exchange it, or Activision to replace it.

If every copied game was simply a backup of an already purchased game, then they wouldn't care.

We all know that it's the freeloaders that are doing 99% of the copying though, which is why there are problems.

if it's only surface scratches then sending it off to a disk repair place may do the trick. will cost you a few (around £5) but it'd come back as good as new.

if it's deep scratches though and a bit mangled then best to get it replaced.

Yep... one deep circular scratch.... and edges a bit messed up also like it rattled around at high velocity in the drive.

Returning it to the supermarket where I purchased it from tomorrow.... will I encounter any problems?

Activision policy is as follows.....
It is our policy that game returns/refunds must be dealt with by the retailer or online site where you purchased the product. For further details, please review Activision's Limited Warranty in your game manual for proper policies and information.

Same thing happened to me with Forza 2. I made the stupid decision of moving my xbox while it was on. Opened up the tray and had a huge ring on the disk. I herd you could mod the console by sticking rubber pads inside the CD-Drive so it wouldn't scratch anymore. I have never tried it myself as voiding your warranty is the last thing you want to do on a console that is a ticking time bomb. Luckily Forza 2 was on the replacement program so i could have sent it back to M$ with £10 to get a replacement (Cheeky buggers) and then wait a millenia to get it back. Now i have two copies of Forza. The scratched one still works but the intro is all messed up graphically and i can not load test tracks.

This pretty much explains how the disk scratching happens and how to fix it. Your picture is pretty much the same as my Forza disk. Mine just isn't as bad. Basically never play with your console upright if you wanna save your disks :P

That is deep.. id love to know exactly what the DVD drive does inside the 360 to make these marks. Did your 360 make any scrappy noises?

Not when I had it.... but it was loaned to a mate a few days ago for an evening... only realised when the "Please clean the disk" message appeared.
Thinking now my mate borked it and negleted to tell me :(

I accidently moved my xbox once when a game was loaded. Damn it made the most screetching noise ive heard in ages. Glad it was only lost planet. Which I only picked up for £10 or so.
