My 4870 is whistling.

is it just capacitor screeching?

I thought these came pre-fitted with hairdryers on top, doesn't that drown it out? :p

My corsair HX620 whistles when the graphics card is under load. Maybe your GTS wasn't drawing enough to stress your PSU that much?

I've had both ATi and Nvidia cards that "chirp" under load. But never had one that you could hear when the side panel was fitted. Unless its so loud you hear it all the time, just ignore. It wont cause any problems.

Thats the least of my worries, the temp in my case has gone sky high since fitting the 4870, its generating much more heat than my 8800gts, i changed coolers for an akasa blue thingmabob, and the thing is roasting hot, probs have to put the stock cooler back on to see if thats any better.

You fitted the Vortexx Neo on the 4870 and its still hot? How hot exactly?

You could also try playing around with the fan speed using the xml hack to see if the noise is affected.

" i can hear a whistle come from it."

Is this a Vsync issue?

Vsync off = squeal.
Vsync on = gone.

Probably a longshot but I read a few people made the whining stop by enabling Vsync?

at 5v, its idle right now at 74C, so pretty hot indeedy.

The cooler is fitted correctly, the heatpipes are roasting hot.

It goes down to about 55C at full speed, but its too noisy.

Thats a shame as I was thinking of getting the Vortexx Neo as I had heard good things about it.

RMAed my one of my ati 3870 for the squealing that has gotten louder to the point that i could hear it from the other side of the room with which i could hear over the 13" desk fan & rather noisy portable air-conditioner.
And that was just idling on the desktop
