Rivatuner never lets me go above 699 Mhz on the Memory "Failed test" or whatever, same thing on the Coolbits overclocking page, think I've just got a bad card for OC'ing?

If I can't get these settings to run in Windows through Rivatuner/Coolbits I don't know if flashing it to GTX would do any good, seems it really doesn't wanna work at them frequencies

Any ideas? Tried other drivers, Mobo bios and it's happened on all my installs of Windows, just annoyed me now when I gave it another shot at OC'ing.
Still getting about 6.7k on 3DMark06 @ Stock on the GPU, would like to be able to get to at least 760 Mhz on the Mem :o

The only reason to flash to GTX is if you are going to SLi it with a GTX - is that what you're planning? You can OC it to GTX speeds without having to flash the BIOS.

best not to flash the card unless you want to sli it with a gtx as mentioned above.

you card may not clock up since thats the way overclocking goes, its upredictable and it can go either way.

I would not do that, the core is the same as a GTX, the difference is in the memory and your memory might not run at GTX speed.

I guess you just have a duff card much like my old 7800GT that could only overclock by 10Mhz

Gah.

One thing I can do is in ATI Tool, force 3D Apps to run at 790 Mhz which seems to work fine and I think it is running Overclocked that way too. Gonna give it a test in CSS stress test in a bit.

Weird, OC'ing works fine in ATI Tool :D
680/800 Core:Ram, above 690 on the Core = artifacts!

Got 200 FPS average on CSS test with HDR on 1440x900, 4x AA/16xAF all settings to high, seems about right iirc.

I had that with my 6800 - you can disable that setting in rivatuner Advanced Settings, and just look out for artefacts/sparkies if you've pushed it too far.

Hehe i have had 2 bad overclocking 7900GTO's, and a word of warning, ATI tools killed my first one from overclocking with it lmao :p i just overclocked my core to 710 or something like that in coolbits and left memory at 1.4, i get all the graphics i need from it hehe

You can disable the warning, but that does not mean the card is stable.
If the overclock test fails the card can not run at that speed, if you force the corespeed it might give you problems later on and might even bork the card.

Fair point. I only did that because I found the overclock test on my card prohibitively sensitive, it wouldn't let me go even 1 mhz above the core speed. I think there was some recognition issues, as my GS was unlocked to a GT, and rivatuner didn't recognise this (although I performed the unlocking operation with rivatuner!)

mine does 700/800 no problems whatsoever in Riva Tuner, not trying to rub it in BTW.

Coolbits doesnt like anything over its stock freq's if i set them manually. but if i was to 'find optimal' it will get around 687/795 or something but it wont save the settings.

riva tuner is better IMHO as you have more options to choose from and the ability to run the fan 100% rather than the 25% default
