Hey people...

Just got home work and my PC was turned off and thought hmm whats going on here... quick boot up and started to run the shower and came into my room and screen was still black, first thought was my monitor had gone as the PC didnt have any errors when bootin and i heard the windows login sounds through my headphones.. so i had quick mess around with that and still couldnt get anything...

i then turned the PC off and reset my bios on my extreme4 gen3 and still nothing.. so i took my 7970 out and used the onboard GFX on my mobo and it booted fine.. i then plugged the 7970 back in booted up again but still using the onboard GFX and went into device manager and my 7970 wasnt showing there?

so does it look like my card is borked?

if so can u please spec me a new one? i would like a 670 or 680 this time as ive never been with Nvidia before so wouldnt mind giving them a try!

Cheers

Mark

i purchased it from MM back in last April! so not 100% sure ill have to get back in contact with the guy i guess..

its a Powercolor reference card so not sure how long the warranty was on them :(

7970, it can't be very old, they have only been out for a year, Warranty is 2 years minimum. unless i'm wrong?

Well, unless OcUK handle rma directly for PowerColor on behalf of the customer and the guy that sold your the card bought it from OcUK rather than elsewhere...you are probably out of luck...or need a lot of it, as if you have to deal with PowerColor directly, you will probably looking at sending the card half way across the globe to Taiwan (if I'm not mistaken)...not only that, PowerColor has a reputation for poor RMA and weasel their way out.

Anyway, it would be best if you could test the 7970 in another PC first to confirm if it really is the card that's dead before jumping to conclusion. Also, what PSU are you using?

Well done Matt :(

@ Westie, I think you know it is dead and hopefully an RMA is smooth and you get sorted ok.

As for a 670/680, I would look to a 670 and look at Gigabyte/EVGA/MSI/KFA2. These have the best reputation with RMA's (especially EVGA).

Na matt I didnt lol! I did reply in bf3 thread! Getting my old 5870 back today so that should hopefully work so I can play bf3 this weekend!

Psu is xfx pro 650
