My 7970 OC doesn't seem that good!

Just going to start o/c mine from the 1000 mhz core, do you just up by 25mhz at a time whilst at stock volts and test with heaven bench until it fails or artifacts then increase voltage and carry on upping by same amount or can i safely.start from say 1100 core straight away and then increase. My stock voltage is 1.174v also is there a point i can start memory from and what incriment would you use each time. I have read that memory has sort of error crection built in so it is hard to find the maximum memory clocks. Is it the same method.as cpu o/cing use to be find max core clock.then memory and then test at both maximums and back off 25 - 50 mhz until stable ? Couldn't o/c my 5870 as it was bios voltage locked being a custom cooled card.so this is all new to me gpu overclocking.

Hi cliff you should be able to goto 1100mhz straight away on stock voltage even mine does then I went up in 10mhz increments.
With my core on stock it became unstable at 1140mhz I went back 5mhz to 1135 MHz still unstable so went back to 1130mhz fine but I'm not sure if thats a big enough increment to go back without being unstable in games.
Regards

Hi borley, what did you do with your memory and how many loops of heaven did you do ? My card idles at 30° and in heaven about 58° with fans at 50% at stock clocks. Case fans on medium in my antec 1200.

What's your voltage set to barley and what are your load temps?
Hi at the moment I have just gone back to stock voltage 1174 mv temps are really good around 32c idle and around 62c under load probably a couple more c than you as I have a very small case but still around 20c lower under load than my xfx 6970:)
I run the fan on auto which isn't the best option but this card runs good temps so it's been fine, I tried 50% fan and got lower temps, I notice if I go over 60% I get coil whine.
I do have to put the voltage up more than most people to get a really high over clock but I have been told temps even low in mid 60s can stop you so I may try a higher over clock with 100% fan then lower, will see tomorrow.
Thanks
Ps BF 3 runs 80 fps I'm happy

Ok cool. I would raise the fan up to the level just before you can notice it, and see what it does to your temps. Try clocking up your memory 50MHz at a time and benching heaven each time, and see if your scores keep improving.
