Hey everyone. I have wanted to build a computer for years, and i am about to take the leap. I just wanted to post the proposed specs, and see if you think all should work well together.

Please have a look and let me know what you think.

Motherboard:
Gigabyte GA P55-US3L

CPU:
Intel Core i5 750 Lynnfield

RAM:
OCZ Gold low voltage 4GB

Graphics:
ATI HD 5770 Vapor-x

Optical Drive:
Sony optiarc AD-72415

Cooling:
Arctic Cooling freezer 7 PRO REV 2

Sound:
Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Extreme

Case:
Thermaltake VL1001 Element

PSU:
OCZ ModxStream 600w
8-pin PSU extension cable 25cm

Hard Drive:
2xSeagate Barracudas 1TB

Thats it. If you see any problems or conflicts or something that i may be missing please let me know.

Much Appreciated, Frank!

it will all work together.

just not sure of you should bother with a sound card.

the x-fi xtreme audio(if that's what your suggesting) has zero resemblance to the true x-fi cards, its just a rebadged Audigy.

Try and go for a better mainboard than the Gigabyte GA P55-US3L, unless of course you need old legacy connections? I'd rather have more USBs, ESATA etc over parallel and com ports.

The PCI slot spacing is pretty shoddy too. I'd rather ditch the sound card and spend more on the mainboard tbh.

Here my try, dropped sound card not really sure most poeople need one and I was guessing its a gaming system so i worked a 5850 into the build, it 30£ more but you can drop the cooler to a AC7 pro and the mobo you could save a lot if you dont need xfire and USb3 and such.

Wow thanks for the replies guys. I was unsure about the sound card tbh, and will take your advice. I was thinking of choosing a better mobo too, but i think the next one up i was looking at was out of stock (Gigabyte). What would you recommend as a better motherboard, or manufacturer that's good? I don't need legacy connections.

Would probably upgrade to the following mobo Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 Intel P55 unless you can think of a better alternate for a similar price. Also i think the 5770 should satisfy my gaming requirements, it should run Battlefield BC2 OK unless i'm wrong.

Why would you suggest Caviars or F3's over Barracudas? I need at least 2Tb

:)

Thanks!

just buy this lot

I Agree with what most people have said here - Go for an "AMD PHENOM 2" - Tri core is excellent value for money, - And with your motherboard, theres not a lot of difference between the "Gigabyte GA P55-US3L" and the "Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H " - You could save £10 and buy that. Good Luck with your build !!!!

Well i never really considered AMD, would it have better performance than the i5 750? The only thing about that build you suggested above is that its 30.00 over budget and only has one hdd, i need two.
Also im pretty set on that thermaltake case. if i added those the build would cost 900.00 or more.

You guys really think its worth swapping the i5 for the AMD above?

Thanks again!

Well i spec'd AMD cause you didnt say what you would use your PC for, the i5, AMD or even i7 make little difference in games, and with a AMD you get a lot better MOBO compared to your i5 spec, it comes with 16x/16x xfire, usb and sata 3 and the new AMD cpus will drop right into the mobo incase you need to upgrade sometime im the future. Further more it allowed for a a 5850 which is a lot better than a 5770. Hope you get something your happy with and it all depends on what you wanna use it for.

I intend to use the system for a few things. I have a few (old) computers I want to stream media to including high def video playback.
I haven't done much gaming on PC's before but i want to start, i thought the 5770 would do the job for most fps games and online multi-player games like cod and such. I suppose the 5850 would be better equipped.
I would also like to try a little overclocking, does the AMD allow much?

Also would I be able to use the cooler I mentioned with your spec instead of the Titan because it's cheaper, or would you suggest i go for the titan? Just trying to shave a a few quid off the total!

:)

Your help is much appreciated!

Yea the AC pro 7 is all good dude, the AMD do allow to overclock and its easier than intel chips, also if you want to save some you could get a cheaper mobo if you dont intend to use xfire in the future. Hope it helps dude.

Not keen on the ModXstream, you'd be far better off with a StealthXStream. If your planning on overclocking the OCZ gold isnt a good choice, try the Corsair Dual channel kits.
