My 8800GS graphic card is so LOUD

I have just put together my first PC and the noise of the graphics card is very anoying. Infact it can be heard from the next room with the telly switched on. Is there any way I can silence this card.

I have had the card less than 24 hours and it is hooked up to the following setup. I can also confirm that I have the most up todate drivers for the card, which I installed via the web site and also got the nVidia site to check using its online tool to do this.

Intel E8200
Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L MOBO
2gb RAM
nVidia 8800GS graphic card

The card starts off increadably noisy and I'm assuming that it is going full pelt from the moment power gets to it. I don't have any overheating issues and I don't overclock anything.

The case is an iCute box with a 25cm fan. The processor and PSU are also brand new and hardly make a noise past a whisper. Even if I remove the sides of the casing so that air flows freely around all the components the fan is anoyingly loud.

I have tried to use the nVidia nTune application to see if that will help. I can find an area in the "Adjust GPU Settings" which has a section for GPU fan settings but this is greyed out and I can not use it.

Anybody got any suggestions on how to slow the fan down?

Cheers

try rivatuner to control the fan speed and clocks,
unfortunately nvidia's latest stuff doesnt seem to have a low power mode by default so the fan is on full pelt all the time
(feel free to correct me, maybe its just a bug with my card?)

Only real alternative is watercooling if you want silent or a third party cooler, be careful when removing the stock in case you want to sell it on

I have also tried rivatuner but as yet I can not find anywhere to slow the fan down.

Open rivatuner
Then under the Target Adapter section click 'low level system settings'
Enable low-level fan control
and then select your settings

remember to monitor your temps so you dont fry your card

Ah, I have a problem there because I can not find that setting.

I have low level refresh rate settings
low level desktop colour scheme
Graphics subsystem diagniostic report
Hardware monitoring

And that's it.

Am I doomed to having to replace this card because it is just too loud?
