Even worse is that when I was a student pocket calculators had just come out and there were even analogue computers for a bit.

whoa, too far back for me! Put your abacus away ye salty dog! (it's international talk like a pirate day today apparantly)!!!

I couldn't even afford Microsoft office and was using a free copy of wordperfect!

wow that setup look sweet!!! congrats man !!

I've always been tempted to switch over to MAC... but never really got round to it.. suppose im worried about cross-compatability a lot...

Pretty sweet!

I'm after an apple mac but they're being upgraded next month (apparantly) so i'm trying to be good and wait. Although this thread doesnt help!

Jeez, as a student how can you afford even that one???? :p

I have done a lot of buying and selling from a young age so i've been able to afford some nice things, the last thing my parents bought for me in terms of electronic goods was my old 1.7ghz P4 dell with 256mb rambus:D And that was about 5-6 years ago?

I don't think there is really that much worry now in terms of compatability, especially seeing as you can run windows xp and os x together should you need to. I have to build another PC for my dad just to view streaming cctv footage but instead i'm just going to buy a Mac Mini and load XP on it, simple and very cheap.

What do you mean it wasn't free? I got it as part of the iPod education rebate deal, got a free printer too as part of the 'perfect companion' rebate. I don't think you can overclock macs and this one has a 1.83ghz intel core duo so it is pretty nippy.

Hiya, I'm just about to buy almost this exact setup, how did you get the perfect companion and the ipod rebate as they both need you to send in the stickers from the macbook box..

Nice setup gurdas! what happened to the uber custom PC you built a few years ago? I remember drooling over that! I've got a MacBook Pro on order so really looking forward to that! Just a few questions though:

How does the laptop fare with the screen closed? any overheating issues?

How easy is it to plug an external monitor in and use that instead of the laptop screen?

cheers

Wonder much the poor Chinese got paid for making that stuff?

Apple admits excessive iPod hours
The manufacture of Apple's iPods is outsourced, and the factories involved in this particular "scandal" were operated by Foxconn, not Apple. Regardless, Apple stated that they would investigate the claims fully. The current line of Apple laptop computers are manufactured by Asus.

2) i can see your definately form over function. not a problem, but not me.
Form over function? You do realise that the MacBook is just a standard laptop computer (with a custom motherboard, although this is to be expected) which comes pre-loaded with an operating system which many would argue (quite rightly, in my opinion) is far superior to Windows? The hardware itself is very handsomely priced compared to other laptops with the same specification (especially when coupled with student discounts) and it's just an added bonus that they're the bast damn looking laptops on the market.

Very nice set up Gurdas :)

I just can't stop but laugh at the way you position every bit of kit you have for display, from phone, every ipod you have and PDA. lol

A fair few moaners in this thread. ;)

Don't see any harm in showing off your stuff. Harmless really.

If I can make it of some use - how well does Windows run on a Mac?

I'll be honest, I've really opened my eyes towards Macs as of late. I'm hopefully getting an iBook for around Christmas time and am really looking forward to using the software on it. Surprising, given how keen I am on PC's and Windows.

As for Apple's design - I can safely say it is the best in the world. Although the E-Mac's bulbus backside isn't a particular favourite.

Looks lovely.....

Ive just ordered a white Macbook (2Ghz Version) today with 1GB Ram, 100GB Hard Drive and a Miglia TV Dongle thing!

It's an upgrade from my G4 Powerbook :D

Don't knock Apple till you've had one they really are very special.

Sandisk e250-e270 pwns the ipod shuffle-nano ;) and I hate their mice. Keyboards are very good though and their stuff does look nice if overpriced.

You can photocopy the barcodes, I rang them up and confirmed this.

There doesn't seem to be any overheating, the fan only ever comes on if i'm watching a movie or something. All you need to use an external monitor is the adapter which you have to buy seperately.

Everything in the pic is generally how the desk looks normally, my phone and remote is always in that place, only difference is that it looks tidy because I cleared off all the papers. Also the pic doesn't show every ipod I have and there is no PDA;)

I know its an odd question - but im very keen on buying a MacBook myself, how much does it weigh?

s-

Not sure on the weight, probably best look on the apple site. It's not as light as it looks but it's acceptable.

Oooo Very nice, I'm deciding whether or not I should get one.

What upgrades did you get with it? Also did you get an ipod with it?

Did you go through HE?

It's all standard, apart from the mini dvi to dvi adapter. I got the 1gb shuffle as part of the rebate and I did go through HE store, but on the phone.

Sweet set up, alwasy wanted to go over to mac, tho most of the software i run is windows based :( i know every say but you can run windows on mac but what the ponit of geting apple when all you want is windows. so i just got a sony vaio SZ2M/B light as anything, and for the first time every legal software. omg it so expensive

I mean that you lined it up side by side...very monica ;)

Well it's difficult to tidy stuff on the desk and not have things lined up;) Give me a week and it will look like a tip though:p

Just an update, after a few days of usage I LOVE the macbook. The build quality is so much better than my 12" ibook g4, the magsafe connector is a nice touch and the thing i'm loving the most is the glossy widescreen which is pin sharp and the thinness of the laptop.
