My assumed GPU issue.

Hey folks,

I recently made the move to Denmark and took my rig with me, changing everything besides the kettle leads. Earlier today, while setting up my computer on my home made desk I turned the pc on and accidently hit the power switch in the main power source on the wall, shutting everything off. I turned it back on but my computer had was stuck on boot and only had a black screen.

I restarted again and the computer turned on but it's as if the monitor wasn't connected to my computer, but the power was on. After pressing the on/off button a bunch of times my screen finally showed the boot process and asked me if I would look to boot from safe mode/normal/etc. I chose safe mode and reset my PC from an earlier save location. After a restart, I received an error saying it was not complete, however some stuff was reverted, like logos on my desktop.

The PC seemed to work fine, I started playing DayZ and once again the screen went black, as if the connection from PC to Monitor was pulled and when I ensured it was in correctly I heard a fan whirl up loudly as if a laptop over heating or something. I can only assume it's my GPU was damaged during the accidental power cut, I'm going to attempt to update any drivers now, but I'd appreciate if anyone here can offer any help, or is this the nudge I need to push me to nvidia?

weird little issues like this sometimes can be fixed by resetting the CMOS. Usually if there was a power issue that has damaged the GPU, you wouldnt normally get as far as playing the game.

What GPU?

Appreciate the swift reply, after an absolutely horrendous week and having the horrible experience of using a WiFi card, this is the last thing I need!

Using a Radeon R7xx, I've tried to find the exact GPU on the OC website but can't come across it. Seems a large amount of Radeon stock isn't there any more.

Also, any help on how to reset the CMOS would be appreciated too. I like to think I'm tech savvy, but that's a step above for me!

Will need the make and model of motherboard to help you.

CPU-Z or Speccy are great programs to get this information.

do you normally get a bios splash screen when you first turns on pc, what make is displayed ?
have you tried unplugging the mains lead from the psu, leave for a minute , plug back in, switch on, you may be prompted for a bios, reset to defaults.

"After a restart, I received an error saying it was not complete, however some stuff was reverted, like logos on my desktop."
sounds like windows is still /was corrupt. May need a reinstall, if bios reset doesnt work.

Was this the first time using it since moving the pc ?

Not able to get to my PC at the moment due to working on the desk, but the box the Mobo came with is Gigabyte X58A-UD3R. Hope this helps!

Here is a link to How Wiki.

How to Reset Your BIOS

Cheers!

Yup, every time however since the incident the screen went entirely black, I could hear the windows 'opening' sound and a small 'beep' my computer does when it loads, but I couldn't see anything on my screen. Display is Samsung. It's confusing because it works and sometimes it doesn't, after I posted my OP here last night, I had about an hour gaming session that felt fine, nothing out of the ordinary happened like the previous times where the fans went mad and the screen went black. Bit worried to turn it back on now to see if it happens again :/
