Over there...
Currently on paid garden leave as i'm moving jobs to a competitor (Sigma-Aldrich - if you're in science you'll know them).

Anyways, was told by my present employer if i hand my car and fuel card back, i'll be over £500 a month better off - and i'm off for another 2 1/2 months!

Soooo, scoured around for a rusty old nail for little money, but wanted MOT and TAX. Everything coming up was 12 - 20 years old, small beat up runabouts...

When i thought outside of the box a little and went bigger, slighly more crazy!

Cue my Rover 620Ti - 2.0 turbo 207BHP, 0-60 in 7s! And how much you ask? £300! MOT til October, and i paid £96 tax for 6 months - so £400 all in for a rapid 6 months driving!

Its awesome, fully electric (windows, sunroof, mirrors) air con (regassed) service history, half leather and so on - its heavily based on the Honda Accord, so in essence a LOT of japanese in it.

It drives VERY well, needed to replace the front pads, and its got a slight exhaust manifold mounting leak, but otherwise a very good car for the money/age - and it goes like stink, and handles brilliantly. Only downer is the fuel economy when its driven hard - eek! It does have a few rust spots, and the alloys have seen better days - but it is 14 years old.

Piccies:
(ignore the cables, thats me experimenting!)

Ohhhh, fantastic buy for the money!!

Pop over to Rovertech and join in the fun :p

Think the engines in these were Rovers own?

Yep, the T series. Although a lot of people on eBay seem to get it wrong and advertise it as a "Honda T series" or a "2 litre K series" lol

yep as agw has said, its the T16 engine, but i THINK Hondas suspension setup.(?)

Cheers fellas, she certainly is fun, similar money and more realistic than Gran Turismo 5 + PS3! hehe!

should add, group 17 insurance, TPFT £220. £45 to surrender the policy, so when i get my new company car, and sell this for some cash i should get a good half of the premium back, + whatever the car nets me.

/off to buy a forge bolt-on BOV

that's cheap! they normally go for about 500 I think. I've got a 623 which is a lardy whale of a car. Its either broken or they did the suspension better on the 620ti.

Be gentle with the central locking, honda let rover do that bit, and as such its rubbish. The sunroof and lecky windows can be a bit rubbish as well. I've broken all three :D

Gotta love the genuine imitation walnut though!

Oh and let me guess, its rusty round the front of the rear wheel arch?

hehe, yup :o

the wndows stick a bit - apparently silicone grease in the runners helps?

Central locking is *touches wood* holding out, but the alarm is a bit of a pest. Its not the one with a fob, just the key (perimeter) and it goes off randomly. Will look at the door switches at some point but for now i've just disconnected the alarm siren

Its either broken or they did the suspension better on the 620ti.

i think its very different on the 620's but dont know for sure...

In 6 months you will have a hole in the wheel arch. Welding it up is easy and shouldn't cost much more than £50 for both sides at once. It even looks OK if you just have it painted black rather than properly blended in. If you get a picky mot tester then it will fail :( its within 30cm of a seatbelt mount even though its entirely unstructural.

Grease it sooner rather than later. One of my windows pinged off the raisy thingy and its been strange ever since. The central locking will die...its just a matter of time. Avoid using the lock buttons, the weak point is related to them. Interestingly my alarm is fine, which is odd.

Can't do much better for the money though, I think they even still look pretty good. Insurance is nice too, I think its the granddad image.

I had one of those before my 528... I loved owning it, one of my favourite cars I think. My 620Ti put a lot of smiles on my face. :)

Couple o' pics of my car before it was lowered and de-tangoed. Ignore the random passer by in the top pic.

I gave mine beans down a dual carriageway on the way home from work tonight. First time I've buried my foot in over a week. I got to the bottom, turned back around and did exactly the same thing again.

Still grin inducing stuff, even after owning it for a year :)

Great car, but thats what they are worth nowadays, just show you dont have to spend loads to get a 'good' car.Iirc these were an Accord in drag?
