I am quite probably going to be selling my bike and hanging up my leathers for good

To cut a long story short, I had a slipped disc and sciatic nerve injury a few years ago that have never really healed correctly, meaning that the muscles in my lower back and hip are pretty much shot

This means that anything more than about 10-15 minutes on my bike starts to cause pain and cramping of the muscles in my leg and hip area which is just too distracting to ignore and I don't feel comfortable anymore on the bike

I think this year I rode the bike to take it for the MOT and then again to pick it up and take it back home, and if I am being brutally honest, I haven't missed being out on it this year. The last couple of years I have hardly ridden it and it doesn't seem right to have it just standing there

I have given it a couple of years to try and get my injury sorted but I think biking is going to have to be laid to rest along with some other sports I have had to give up as well

:(

What bike are you riding at the minute? Would switching to something a bit easier going on your back not be an option? Finding something more comfortable may reignite your passion for getting out for a ride.

I currently have a GSXR, which obviously won't help the issue, but to be honest, even sitting at work for any length of time starts to become painful if I don't get up and stretch so I think it might be time to call it a day

I may see if there is anything I can do at the gym over the winter to try and build up the muscles around my hip, otherwise there will be a nice K5 Anniversary GSXR600 for sale with both the Yoshi and standard exhausts, pillion seat and seat cowl at the beginning of next spring

Like you said the GSXR will not help with the issue, even people without back problems feel pain on the back after riding sport bikes.
I would try some bikes with a more comfortable riding position. Try to borrow or rent one for a couple of days and see how do you feel.

Find a decent osteopath and all may not be lost. I had a similar issue a couple of years ago and after physio and the right exercises I'm back to full health.

I have a crappy back and with some help from an osteopath and the right seat design I'm good to go - I'm on a Sportster though so there's loads of aftermarket stuff to choose from - I know sod all about other manufacturers...

I have just had injections in both my knees and will have them done again before summer also I will be having injections in my spine on the 22 Dec I have had them before 18 months ago.

The docs keep *******ing me for still riding in the winter but when I m on the bike I still feel good so **** em :p

I had to give up riding a long time ago for back stuff (my whole skeleton is ruined now) was difficult to stop but I really had to, still dream about Bikes, very vivid dreams, rode a very long time.

If you have to stop you have my sympathy.
